A lot of people are a little bit confused when I tell them I am an athletic therapist. Usually they make me repeat myself and then ask "you mean like a physio?"...yes a little bit but not really... "so like a physical therapist"...yes a little bit but not really..."okay like a personal trainer"....yes a little but but again not really..."right...so what is it you do exactly" ?
Athletic therapy is an exercise-based form of therapy that is mostly tailored (but not exclusively reserved) to the athletic position. We use a mix of hands on techniques (massages, manipulations, dry needling and so on) and exercises to prehab and rehab injuries!
If you want to know more about athletic therapy in Ireland, have a look at our governing body's website: https://www.arti.ie
Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland (ARTI) is the governing body responsible for the promotion, regulation, and continued education of Certified Athletic Therapists in Ireland.
