September has been an absolute whirlwind in the best possible way. I eased myself into it with a week lying on a sun lounger in Turkey. Then it was straight back to work mode with our Chair Yoga retreat and the beginning of a new term. I've been busy and loving it and also making a very conscious effort to prioritise my selfcare too. I've gone back to the pool for the first time in ages, I'm attempting to spend at least 5 minutes a day painting and I squeezed in a 3 day Ayurvedic digestive reset and honestly I feel so much better and brighter since.

September photo dump.

Deep belly laughs, long heartfelt chats, campervan adventures, visitors from Spain, being silly is all soul medicine and something I really needed this week.

Last week was tough! I was overwhelmed, overthinking, not sleeping, and anxious. (I think a lot of us feel like this watching the on going genocide πŸ’”)

I really needed time to remember the beauty, joy and goodness that also exist in the world. So grateful for my friends, deep belly laughs, long heartfelt chats and campervan adventures on Loop head. My head and heart (while still broken) definitely feel lighter this week.

Keep talking about Palestine, keep calling for an end to Genocide, keep your friends close πŸ™πŸΌπŸ’šπŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ

It's been busy this week in restocking my little store and preparing our goodie bags ahead of our upcoming Chair Yoga Retreat and Autumn Rest and Restore Self Care Retreat Day.

We've got loads of lovely surprises prepared for you (there's still time to join us!)

I spent the afternoon blending essential oils to make my lavender free sleepy roller balls and Ayurvedic miracle tea.

Very grateful to for the lovely skin care samples to be added to our Chair Yoga retreat packs.

A little bit of life lately. Since I finished up my summer stint with Offaly Language Academy, I've been trying to take my own advice and slow down, rest and find joy in the everyday moments.

Over almost a decade of yoga teaching (how did that happen? πŸ˜‚), I learned a thing or two, there's also been a lot of unlearning and relearning, but more on that another time. Here's some of what this journey has taught me.

1. Practice doesn't almost make perfect but it's key to understanding and growth. I don't believe the perfect pose exists (anymore because what's perfect for me won't be perfect for you), practice can help us to understand the pose and help us feel stronger/more stable/comfortable in a pose. It helps us understand that growth, on and off the mat, take time and teaches us to trust the process.

2. There's no one size fits all. Every body is different. We need to learn how to feel into our own unique bodies to understand what works for us (this is not just on the mat btw).

3. The importance of self care. As a teacher I've learnt the importance of taking care of myself, resting when I need to rest, moving when I need to move and nourishing my myself, physically, mentally and emotionally. As saying goes you can't pour for an empty cup.

4. Learning never ends. Yoga is a lifelong practise, there's always something new to learn, explore and grow into. Keeping an open mind is key to learning and growing. I sometimes panic about how I'll have time in this life to learn all I want to learn, especially when there's so much I still don't know I need to learn! (Please tell me I'm not alone here!)

5. The importance of connection. Whether it's connection to your breath, your body or the community, yoga teaches us the vaule of connection. When I first started teaching I didn't realise the importance of connection and felt lonely and unsupported now I'm incredibly grateful to have a really wonderful community of yogis, teacher and friends around me. Could connection be key to everything?

I'm incredibly grateful for this path I'm on and for those who've shared sections of it with me. My students, teachers, mentors etc. Here's to many more years of learning, growing and sharing the magic of yoga.πŸ˜‰

I'd love to hear what you've learnt on your own yoga journey!

There are a lot of coughs, colds and flu going around at the moment, and while I am a big advocate for staying in bed or at the very least wrapped in blankets on the couch when you are unwell, sometimes a little yoga can really help. Here are three poses I find helpful when I have a head cold, sinus congestion or a cough.

1. Childspose (or childspose variant) with forehead resting on a block. The gentle pressure of the head on the block can help with sinus drainage and give headache relief. I'm usually not the biggest fan of this pose as I don't always find comfort in it, however if you do it can also be a great place to rest when you are feeling unwell as it allows you to turn your attention inward.

2. Camel Pose/Ustrasana can help with post nasal drip and creates space in the front of the chest, I find this give me relief after coughing. If you are going to try this pose make sure to warm up first, try some cat/cow and thread the needle movements before attempting this pose.

3. Legs up the wall one of my favourite positions when I'm feeling in any way under the weather. This pose is soothing on the nervous system and promotes the rest and digest response which is vital for healing.

These poses may or may not help you, I know they do help me when I can feel I need to move a bit after long periods in bed or on the couch.

Do you have any other yoga poses that help you feel better share them with me below and don't forget to save this post for next time you're feeling poorly.

If you are feeling unwell I hope you feel better soon!
