1st of February💚 St. Brigid’s day and the first day of spring. And you could really feel the spring approaching today. Blue skies and sun that warms your cheeks.
We spent the afternoon walking through one of our favourite woods.
After almost a whole month of only rainy days, it was so nice to finally get to spend several hours outdoors. So lovely yet tiring for some.. Hoping for a lot more days these☀️

Were you able to enjoy the good weather today?

Ordinary Friday in a life as a homebaker and a mother.

I wake up with a heavy head. Yushin didn’t sleep well so as a result neither I.
“Is it time to go downstairs?” He asks. I check the time, 05.55. “It is” I tell him.
I turn on the oven. During the hours that follow I combine baking with breakfast making and lunch box prepping.
Take some painkillers to ease the headache.
I add the final touches to the sweet treats; chocolate, sprinkles and flowers.
09.00, the work is done but I still need to get ready. I text the playschool to say we will be a little late today.
Feed the hens, get ready, double check all the orders, ignore the mess in the kitchen, put Yushin in the car. “Ready to go” I say. “but we forgot my lambovini!” Luckily I find it quickly in the messy floor. Back outside. Look up at the sky, it’s blue and the sun is coming through! Wonderful.
Drop Yushin to playschool, I get one hug and two kisses today.
Deliver the orders to all my lovely costumers. This is the best part of workweek, seeing your smiling faces and exchange a few words. I love to hear what you’ve been up to. And I forget all about my headache.
I have time for a little walk through town and some shopping before it’s time to collect Yushin.
Headache comes back. Afternoon is spent making lunch, cleaning the kitchen, playing with cars, let the floor get messy again.. Manage to squeeze in a power nap to the sound of Paw patrol. Head feels lighter.
Collect Alma and her friends from school. Do the baking prep for tomorrow. Make a sourdough starter and custard. Have time for a quick coffee.
Take the girls to dance class. Once back home, myself and the boys make tacos. They set the table and prepare the meat while I make the rest.
Taco-Friday. The whole family is gathered and I can let my shoulders down. I love these moments.
Tidy up then make a small batch of strawberry jam.

And here I am now. Yushin has just fallen a sleep and I will soon get to sit down in my favourite chair and watch that Swedish program I love so much. No red wine today, but I will have some of that deluxe Danish liquorice.
Wishing you all a lovely evening and weekend❤️

January🩶 my least favourite month. First comes the post- Christmas blues, then the rain, the cold winds and grey skies. The New Year’s resolution that I haven’t managed to start yet.. I’ll start tomorrow I keep telling myself.
I feel tired most of the time and find it hard to motivate myself. But also restless and guilty for not using my time more efficiently. Trying to remind myself that it’s ok to take it easy.
Feels like swimming in water that is a little too cold and I try my best to keep the head above water. And the head keeps spinning, thinking about this mad world we seem to live in.
I go for a walk in the rain. The head is still spinning; thinking about next week, the situation in Iran, Greenland, another person killed by ICE, why don’t we hear anything about the situation in Gaza?”.. but as I keep walking, I start to lift my head. Shoulders come down a little, did I hear a bird? I see snowdrops in the ditch and daffodils in the fields. Reminding me that spring is on its way.
When I walk up the driveway, the rain has stopped and I can see a tiny bit of blue sky through the heavy clouds. And I feel a little more hopeful🩵

How do you find January? And how do you beat the January blues (if you feel them)?

Looks like we have a wet and grey weekend ahead of us. So why not do a nice indoor activity? Marmalade🧡 It’s a little time consuming, but after a few hours work you’ll have the nicest bittersweet marmalade to last you for a year. The recipe can be found in my bio or by clicking on the link in my comments😊

Marmalade🍊 one of my most important must haves. The best marmalade is made using Seville oranges and they’re only available for a few weeks, so I better hurry! You can find all the yummy treats on this week’s menu in the comments ⬇️

2016💛 a little late to join the trend but I’ve never been a big fan och trends anyway.. I am very nostalgic though and I enjoy looking at old pictures. Especially looking at those moments that bring back special memories.
The year started in Japan and this lovely picture was taken of Shion and Alma in traditional costumes🥹
My sister gave me the best birthday gift, to go to the Adele concert in Dublin with her❤️
My dad and stepmom came to visit and Alma was finally comfortable and confident to hold their hand.
We spent many afternoons going on walks and climbing trees. All the hours the mother spent trying to entertain her children..
Alma turned 3 and was so happy to get a doctor’s bag. The same doctor’s bag that her baby brother plays with 10 years later.
I spent less than 24 hours in Sweden for my best friend’s wedding. A truly wonderful day💕 I really love that jacket but I don’t think it fits anymore..
Shion had his adenoids removed to improve his breathing and snoring issues. I will never forget how hard he found it to wake up after the surgery, how much he cried, how confused he was, how helpless I felt..
I already had a passion for baking back then, even if it wasn’t something I did for a living. I kept dreaming about it though💛
There are actually very few pictures of me from 2016 and in the very few I can find I’m not really smiling, apart from the one taken with my sister and aunt on New Year’s Eve 2016.
I wasn’t unhappy, but tired and stressed. And not quite sure if I was on the right path. It’s would turn out that I wasn’t, but after some changes, a bumps in the road and a big crisis, I would end up on the right path.
I wish I could go back to Mirjam of 2016, stroke her on the cheek and tell her that it’s ok to ask for help❤️
