SPRING COVID BOOSTERS

We are now offering spring Covid booster jabs in the Surgery.

HSE guidance is that you are eligible for a spring booster if you;

-are aged 80 or older
-Have a weakened immune system
-are aged 70 or older and did not get a booster vaccine in the previous 12 months

Blocked ears?
We are running a brand new Nurse-led ear syringing clinic each Friday afternoon in the Health Centre. Phone us to book in and please ensure to use wax softening drops (available over the counter) for 5 days before your appointment.

Due to Storm Eowyn, Cappoquin Health Centre will not open until 1pm tomorrow, Friday 24th. Please re-arrange appointments as needed as the public is being advised to stay indoors and not to travel during the red weather warning. In case of an Emergency, dial 112.

We are experiencing a high volume of calls in the countdown to Christmas. Please remember most minor illnesses (see below) do not need an antibiotic and are VIRAL in nature. Bear this in mind before trying to book in. In 90% of cases all you have to do is rest, drink fluids, take Paracetamol, take your flu/covid vaccinations and then let nature do its thing;

How long do common illnesses last?
On average;
• An ear infection: around 4 days.
• Sore throat: around 1 week.
• Common cold (runny nose): around 2 weeks.
• Sinus infection: around 2 weeks.
• Cough (which often happens after a common cold): around 3 weeks.

When does a child need to be seen by a doctor?
-If they are taking less than 50% of their usual fluid/food intake
- If they have a persistent temperature >38 degrees that is not settling with regular Calpol
- if they are aged 3 months or less and you are worried

CHILDRENS' FLU SPRAY CLINICS NEXT WEEK

To coincide with mid term break, we are putting on special children's nasal flu spray clinics each day next week. Please phone us to book your children aged 2-17 in for their spray if they haven't already had it. It takes 30 seconds, is free, painless, and could keep your child out of hospital this winter!

Message to all patients; our 2024 Flu and Covid boosters are starting from today, Monday Sept 30th. We are starting with all patients aged over 60, or patients younger than that with a medical condition.

Check out our brand new website www.cappoquinhc.ie which has gone live this week. From now on, we are encouraging patients to order their prescriptions online rather than by phone where possible.

Cappoquin Health Centre is a GP surgery located in Cappoquin,Co waterford. Our surgery is wheelchair accessible and includes on site parking,which can be found to the rear of the building.
