πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Cranky Coach Race Report – Cork City 10K

The big race of the weekend was the Cork City 10K, brilliantly hosted by St. Finbarr’s AC and run through the stunning Lee Valley. This was no easy outing a wildly challenging course, featuring a tough climb at the back of the valley and a stiff headwind down the Straight Road into the finish at Lee fields

Despite the conditions, our 16 Cranky Coach athletes delivered an absolutely brilliant set of performances. This race is always a highlight on the calendar, and this year it did not disappoint β€” superb organisation, a great atmosphere, and outstanding running across the board.

πŸ’ͺ A Group on the Rise

From category wins to personal bests, tempo efforts to breakthrough runs, this was a superb showing of depth and strength across the group. With eyes now turning toward the Dublin Marathon and the Berlin Marathon, this race was the perfect stepping stone for the months ahead.

πŸ‘ Massive credit to all 16 runners who flew the Cranky Coach colours so proudly on a tough day. And a big thank you to St. Finbarr’s AC for hosting such an excellent, well-organised event.

Here’s to the next one β€” the Cranky Crew keeps rolling forward!

Youghal Half Marathon – Main Event

The main event of the weekend took us to Youghal for the Half Marathon. It was another humid morning, but a light bit of rain helped keep conditions in check.

Following on from the success of the 10K, the Youghal Half was an outstanding race for our Cranky Course Running group . Many of these runners are deep in marathon training, so this was an excellent indicator of current fitness as they move into their final prep.

Results
β€’ Shane Wheelely – 1:24
β€’ Brian Fox – 1:27
β€’ Cathal Kelleher – 1:37 (PB)
β€’ Evanna Caoinh – 1:47 (PB)
β€’ Una Duffy – 1:48 (PB)
β€’ Padraig Caoinh – 1:51 (PB, by 8 minutes!)

Three of our lads also stepped up for pacing duties, showing great teamwork and discipline:
β€’ Keith Kelly – sub-1:20 pacer
β€’ Andy Goulding – sub-1:20 pacer
β€’ Dave Buckley – 1:30 pacer
Massive congratulations to everyone β€” a mix of brilliant PBs, strong marathon prep efforts, and selfless pacing work that brought home some superb results.

Cranky Coach Racing Weekend Youghal 10K & Half Marathon

The big race on the calendar this weekend was the Youghal 10K and Half Marathon one of the true highlights of the racing season. The 10K took place on a challenging course in Youghal, with humid conditions adding to the test. But the atmosphere more than made up for it huge crowds lined the streets, and the finish in Youghal is genuinely one of the best race endings anywhere in the country. Hats off to the organisers for another brilliant event.

Youghal 10K – Cranky Coach Results

We had six Cranky Coach athletes toe the line in the 10K, and they delivered some fantastic performances:
β€’ Kieran McKeown – 35:49, 1st M50
β€’ Declan O’Donoghue – 36:18, 1st M40 and a brilliant PB
β€’ John Cronin – 38:50, superbly paced run
β€’ Conor Friel – 39:11, strong finish and great consistency
β€’ Zena Mullane – 40:44, 1st F35 with a powerful closing mile
β€’ Gavin Quaid – 44:51, great effort in tough conditions

Every single one ran hard and represented the Cranky Course colours brilliantly. Massive well done to the whole lads cracking times, category wins, and PBs in testing conditions.

Race Report BHAA Sterling 5k By Declan

Nice evening for racing, a slight breeze. Bumped into a few of the cranky crew in the car park and headed off for 3mile warm up. Great chat wit Paul,Conor and Jay. The usual topics were coverd: what shoes to buy, injury status, Got jealous listening to the lads talking about upcoming marathons after my self imposed marathon retirement. Great to see Jay back racing he is always positive and full of encouragement. Few sprints to get the heart rate up, can of red bull(poor sleep last night as 3 and 6 year old both decided to join us in our bedπŸ™ˆ) and head to start line. Pushed up to the front, none of the cork elite at the start line so theres a decent finish availble.

Mile 1 - Fast start but dropped by top 3 lads
Mile 2 - Stick with the second group and maintain pace
Mile 3 - the hills kick in and loose touch with second group, regretting the MCdonalds and giant cinema popcorn the day before with the kids😦 catch a few lads on the last downhill. Onto the final drag which goes on for awhile and push to finish line.

9th place finish and 1st M40. Delighted with that.

3mile cool down with the lads and talk of youghal on Sunday has me tempted. Hanging around for the prize giving felt a bit a bit like a marathon.. John Buckleys voucher😁 go towards new shoes.. Some great results by the rest of the lads and still the best value in cork for a fiverπŸ˜ŽπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Race report from Enda Kiernan

πƒπ²π¬πšπ«π πŸ’ 𝐌𝐒π₯𝐞 𝐂π₯𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐒𝐜

Our Cranky Crew Captain travelled to support the Dysart 4 Mile Classic, hosted by Mullingar Harriers AC on Tuesday evening, August 5th. The race marked two significant milestones - the 50th anniversary of Mullingar Harriers AC’s foundation, and the 30th anniversary of their famous win at the 1995 National Senior Men’s Cross Country Team Championship.

The race followed an out-and-back course starting and finishing in Dysart, Co. Westmeath. While noted to be a fast course, the route had its fair share of rolling hills to challenge even the most seasoned runners. Over 300 runners took part, with a dominant show of maroon and white singlets from the host club. However, ex Harrier and current St Finbarrs AC member, made the long trek to the Midlands, and ran a good solid race, finishing in 29.22.

It was great to run on country roads, totally closed by the Gardai in conjunction with the locals as athletes ran initially across the entire width of the road. Afterwards, there was a BBQ,pints, and craic in the local pub. If planning a road trip in 2026, this one merits consideration.

Well done to all the organising committee.
