Good day out in Cobh, took it easy enough on the way out didnt want to do the same as mallow and go out too fast, first hill after the downhill was tough but recovered fast and after that settled into a pace and really enjoyed the race,the other hills were easy so enough. I didn’t have the same go in the last 2 miles as I would have liked but already had done 55k during the week so I suppose that would make sense and didn’t want to push too hard as I know I’ve another big week ahead. I think I’ve got a lot more comfortable with racing now and getting a bit better at pacing myself through them. Fueling went well took a gel a bit before the massive hill and then another one at 10km in. Think it was a good result wasn’t shattered afterwards either so feeling a bit more confident for the marathon.

After spending the last 20 years as FAI National Referees Elite Fitness Coach, the time felt right to step away and focus fully on building Cranky Coach and developing our running group.

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years.

From training camps and testing days to travelling across Europe and working at the highest level, it’s been an experience I’ll always be grateful for.

From the hard times to the good times to some truly fantastic moments along the way, one of the most rewarding parts has been seeing referees develop and progress to officiate at the top level across Europe.

I’ve been lucky to work with a fantastic group of people and to learn from some of the best coaches along the way, including Paul, David Carter and Tony, and I’m very grateful for all the support and knowledge shared over the years.

It’s been a massive part of my life and something I’ll always look back on with great pride.

Thanks again to everyone who was part of the journey

🏁 Cranky Coach Race Report Mallow 10 Mile

A brilliant day out for the Cranky Coach crew at the Mallow 10 Mile, where a fast course and smart racing combined for some outstanding performances across the board.

From front to back, this was a proper team showing big PBs, strong comebacks from injury, and a real sign of the consistency building within the group.

Mallow 10 Mile Race Report
Mallow 10 Mile times:
2024: 1 hr 40 mins
2025: 1 hr 31 mins
2026: 1 hr 23 mins (PB, Altough Strava has it on best efforts as 3rd because I was faster during 2 half marathon races)
The start was a bit chaotic with plenty of congestion( why don’t they start it after the gates) and that big hill right after the start nearly finished me off. Tried sticking with the pacers, but they were flying early on. Eventually managed to settle in, catch them, and even pass them later in the race.
Really liked the new section through the racecourse — nice change of scenery. The finish was a little hilly, but the event was very well organised overall. Loads of marshals, great toilet facilities, and proper bottles for the water. The weather was perfect, and it turned out to be a really enjoyable day and another great outing in Mallow. I love the improvement I’m still seeing through the coaching, thanks Kieran and all the crew for the support. Nice to see a few of you along the way too.
