There’s a perception with people who are trying to get into weight training that to be “like those people you see in the gym”.
Each session has to be noticeably better than the last and you have to be at the top of your game every single time you set foot in the gym.
Then, after a handful of weeks, they feel a bit of a disconnect because they don’t feel the way they think they should – unwaning hyper-motivation.
“Maybe I’m just not the gym type”.
Whatever that is supposed to mean.
I will tell you first hand, a large portion of my own personal gym sessions are relatively routine and are nothing to write home about. It is me ticking a box.
Now, there are some very, very good sessions in there, but also some sessions I would rather quickly forget…. But the common theme is that I am turning up regardless.
And that is what wins out over time.
Like this picture, I will turn up with bedhead on a rainy morning after a long day catching up on work previously. Am I ecstatic to be there? Not realty, but I know it has to be done.
Don’t get me wrong, I love weight training, but that doesn’t mean I will consistently have the same application for it every single day, or that other competing commitments might make me feel a little bit less motivated, and that is totally normal.
So, if you feel that you go through that same process. Don’t get too worried about it. It is completely part of the process, just make sure you turn up and do the work either way.
