This is a letter that we got last year from The Kevin Bell fund the morning after he seen the amount that all you raised at last years ‘walk with me’. The amount of money raised last year that has helped so much people over this past year through the Kevin Bell Fund and The other €16,000 that the down-strands counselling service were able use to help them give the great service they give to our local people.

We hope that this year again that you will be able to get out and help us raise all these valuable funds for these great causes. This year the money will be raised for the Kevin Bell Fund, The down-strands counselling service, and The Donegal town Family resource Center who provide counselling

Aswell as walks taking place in Belfast, Dublin, Cork, Ballybofey, Mayo, Tipperary, Wexford, Meath, Tyrone, London and New York , Perth And the Gold Coast Australia. The support that everybody was willing to give was just incredible and it was a real tribute to the sort of person Mary Ellen was.

We’d especially like to thank all of Mary Ellen’s friends, Kayla Baskin, Charlene Breslin, Joanne Maloney, Nicole Sweeney, Regina Shovlin. They came up with this idea to remember Mary Ellen and those we have loved and lost. But most of all, we must thank you, the people who braved the weather that day and donated in any way at all. €33,215 far exceeded any expectations we had when beginning this and we are beyond grateful. We had planned to announce this much sooner, but because of your incredible and ongoing generosity, donations continued days and even weeks after the walk had taken place. So we decided today, Mary Ellen’s 28th birthday, would be a good time to post and thank you all.

The generosity shown is overwhelming and will go on to help so many people. Helping families like ours that have to use the Kevin Bells Repatriation Trust to bring home a loved one from overseas. To someone who needs help from the Downstands/Glenties counselling service to get through a challenging time in their lives.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and see you all next year 💙

- Mary Ellen’s kind and dear friends came up with the idea of this walk together, totally inspired by her and the person she was, they knew the importance of “togetherness”, especially after a loss. When discussing it with us, it became clear to all of us how important it is that this sentiment of should be shared with everyone who has lost a loved one and through this now have, “walk with M.E”

- By coming together on St Stephen’s day, we hope that by simply being together, to walk with family, friends and also those we have lost, in spirit, brings everyone as close as they can be in these times.

- On the day, it’s this idea of reflection, togetherness and support, that someone may come to realise that hardships, troubles, grief, sadness, were never meant to be journeys taken alone.

- in addition to the friends, family and community surrounding you with love and support we also have brilliant services locally, to provide counsel through whatever you may be going through today, tomorrow, or yesterday.

- our local counselling services in downstrands has proven to be an immeasurable help during these times. So it felt only right to give back, by raising funds, we can see more people given a safe space, an understanding, and a next step.

we are also raising money for the Kevin Bell repatriation trust, which helped the Our family and many others in such a hard time.

The response for so far for the Walk with Me has blown us all away! We started the idea with just a walk at the Ardara GAA pitch and then with other communities and some great people getting involved it has now grown to take place in 6 different locations around south west Donegal.
All walks will be starting at 12 noon and finishing up at 3 pm. But if you can’t make any of these don’t worry that you can do the walk wherever you are and whenever you want!

Walk with Me will take place in the following six locations.

Pearce Memorial Park Ardara

Narin Beach

Ionad Pobail, Mhín an Aoire
Meenaneary Community Centre

Ionad Fiontraíochta Shliabh Liag
Distillery Building Carrick

The Blue haven kilcar

Lough eske castle

Comprehending such a tragic loss, so sudden and unfair, has felt to be impossible on some days. Some of us reached out to counselling services, which has proved invaluable in the healing process. Making time and talking to each other is what is getting us through this, just as we had done so many times with Mary Ellen., We wanted to do something in her memory so we decided on a walk, as it would join us all together as family, friends, community, to spend time with each other. Inspired by her, we wanted this walk to be in memory of all our loved ones who have passed away, called “Walk with M.E.”

We are so grateful to have such amazing counselling services, in the Downstrands Family Recourse Centre available to help us, we want to help back, by fundraising for them and to raise awareness on mental health , considering Mary Ellens career and her belief in counselling, and how this service can help people smile again, this just seems right the right idea to to remember Mary Ellen.

We hope you’ll join us to support our “Walk with M.E.” on this St Stephen’s day the 26th of December from 12 noon to 5pm at Pearce Memorial Park Ardara, for a 5k walk or run to celebrate and to remember Mary Ellen, and our loved ones we have lost, and those we still have.
The proceeds from this walk will be divided between The Downstrands Family Recourse Centre and The Kevin Bell Foundation.
