📢 Community Update – Doneraile Branch and the closure of Doneraile Post Office.

Following conversations with many locals yesterday, we just wanted to clarify a few key points, primarily aimed at potential new members of Doneraile as a result of their Post Office closure:

✅ Post Office Arrangements
We do not have a formal arrangement with the Post Office. However, we understand that some forms have been issued requesting IBAN details for payments. This is a personal choice, and we’re more than happy to chat through the available options with anyone who has questions.

✅ Busy Footfall – Appointments May Be Needed
It was fantastic to see such strong community interest! Due to the high footfall, there may be a need to make an appointment to open an account. That said, we’re “playing it by ear” and will do our best to accommodate everyone on the day as walk ins.

✅ What You’ll Need to Open or Reactivate an Account
Please bring the following documents:

A valid passport or driver’s licence
A utility bill dated within the last 6 months
An official document confirming your PPS number

✅ Joint Accounts
If you’re opening a joint account, both parties must be present at the time of account opening.

✅ Debit Card Access
Our current account includes a debit card that can be used in retail locations. If this is new to you, we’re here to help guide you through it.

We’re local, we’re part of the community, and we’re here for our community. If there’s anything we can do to assist or improve, we’re always open to a conversation.

With the proposed closure of Doneraile Post Office, we understand the impact this may have. That’s why Mallow Credit Union is stepping up to support Doneraile.

📍 Starting Tuesday, 22nd July, our Doneraile branch will be open for additional hours over the coming weeks:
🕙 Tuesdays: 10am – 1pm
🕙 Thursdays: 9.30am – 12.30pm (as usual)

For new members the following will be required

You will need to provide us with 3 forms of identification, one from each of the sections below:

● A Photo ID – valid passport or driver’s licence.
● Proof of Address – utility bill or bank statement dated within in the last six months.
● Your P.P.S. number on an official document – Please note, under law, we cannot accept the Public Services card as proof of PPSN.

We’re committed to being there when our community needs us most.

Many will have heard of the closure of the Post Office in Doneraile. This will impact a lot of people and especially our older vulnerable residents. One thing we always advocate is to keep the independence we so crave. We deserve to keep that as much as possible.
If anyone of our older residents need help going to Buttevant or Mallow into the future we have a driver who might be able to help out. Just message us here.
We need to make this transition as easy as possible.

Customers can avail of post office services in Buttevant which is 7.8km away, Castletownroche 11.4km away, Mallow 11.7km and Kildorrery 14km away.

🚨 Cork County Council Age Friendly Programme and the Emergency Services are hosting an event in Mallow on Thursday 17th July to provide older people, their carers, and families with the opportunity to speak with the emergency services in a non-emergency situation.

🏠 Attendees will also have the chance to learn more about the Healthy Age Friendly Homes programme.

📍The event will take place in the Hibernian Hotel & Leisure Centre Mallow and will start at 10am.

Refreshments will be provided.

Our summer Social Cafe is happening this Tuesday coming ,the 15th of July, in the Mercy Centre.Mallow
We will be kicking off at 11 am , we have music, song, dance story telling abd a little bit of line dancing in the mix.

Tuesday June 10th we travelled to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park for our outing.
We thoroughly enjoyed a trip down memory lane and we met the most wonderful and helpful people who enjoy their work and welcomed us all with enthusiasm and charm
We travelled back in time to see the fisherman's cottage, the old school house, the doctor's house, the small holding with free range chickens, peacocks and donkeys.
We witnessed bread being made on the open fire and discovered the lady who made the scones and apple pie for the tearooms.
We travelled onto Adare for a bit of retail therapy and a walk around the beautiful park, town and a visit to the church.
Our final destination was to the The Woodlands Hotel where we enjoyed a very relaxing few hours being fed and catered for.
It was a wonderful day and the weather played ball.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the day so enjoyable.
Last but not least we have to say a massive thanks to Sam, our bus driver from O'Sullivan Coaches Kildorrery .
He was a gentleman to the core
