The GAA’s popular ‘Ireland Lights Up’ initiative returns in January 2023 in partnership with RTE’s Operation Transformation, Get Ireland Walking and the Irish Life “My Life” app.

‘Ireland Lights Up’ encourages GAA clubs across the 32 counties to turn on their floodlights and open their walking tracks so their community can come together to walk and talk in a safe environment during the dark winter evenings. As ever, Operation Transformation, which returns to our screens on January 4th will shine a light on this great initiative by showcasing each week on the show GAA clubs that are participating in ‘Ireland Lights Up’.

✅Participating clubs are asked to organise a community walk a minimum of one evening per week for seven weeks.
✅Starting from Wednesday, January 11th Until March 1st, the conclusion of Operation Transformation.

Irish Life, proud sponsors of the GAA Healthy Club programme, are once again onboard to host another 'Healthy Clubs Steps Challenge' through their MyLife health app. An incredible 28,000 participants tracked their steps through the MyLife app in January 2022, with three clubs in each province winning prizes totalling €5,000. By registering for Ireland Lights Up you are automatically registered for the Steps Challenge (although you don't have to participate in the latter - that is at your discretion). The Steps Challenge will run for five weeks from January 11th.

Research shows that talking – and having a trusted confidant to talk to – is one of the most powerful factors in promoting good mental health. Research also shows that people facing mental health challenges often feel they do not have anyone they can talk to or rely on to come alongside them. Ev...

Changes To Close Contact Isolation Rules Approved:

The Cabinet has approved changes to close contact isolation rules at a meeting this morning.
The new regime will come into place from midnight tomorrow.
The new changes mean asymptomatic close contacts who have been boosted won't have to restrict movements.

But they will be advised to take antigen tests and wear medical grade masks.
Non-boosted close contacts will have to restrict for seven days.
Under 40s who test positive on an antigen test won't need a confirmatory PCR test.
While all confirmed Covid cases will need to isolate for seven days.

Despite the ECDC warning the approach isn't evidence based, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says it's a balancing act.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly admitted there's an element of risk to the approach, but it will free people up to return to work.
