Good news! Civil Service members are one step closer to Conciliation & Arbitration reform with some preliminary draft text now shared, that will secure a more efficient and fair dispute resolution system.

Incredible power on show with the SNA protests yesterday and continuing through the week.

The beginning of a movement based on care, respect, and dignity. Save Our SNAs - Support All Children!

25/02/2026

Well done to SNAs, school communities, politicians and advocacy groups for protests across the country. This is just the beginning of a powerful coalition and campaign to fight for children and SNAs

24/02/2026

SNAs need to stand together. A groundswell of support built a coalition - and it can win. But this is far from over.

SNAs, students, parents, politicians and advocacy groups forced the Government to make a u-turn on SNA cuts, but it's a pause for a year.

There is a huge opportunity now to make sure that next year, children are not left behind. And that SNAs have the job security and respect they deserve.

Thank you to for organising a briefing at the Dáil this evening.

SNA update: there will be no reductions this school year, and any school that has been allocated additional resources will receive them.

While this is welcome news, this is a “sticking plaster to be in place for 12 months while the Government tries to get its act together" - Andy Pike, Head of Education at Fórsa.

This situation should never have happened. The Government has failed to prioritise this issue for too long.

So we can’t let this process be kicked down the road. We need real engagement on altering the circular now, so SNAs, children and parents aren’t faced with this again in a year’s time.

What happens next?

The protests are still going ahead. We will be there to stand with SNAs, families and school communities to send the message that schools need SNAs, and SNAs deserve respect.

Also agreed by Government is that before any further decisions are taken, these policies will be advanced to make sure a child-centred approach is taken:

- the SNA redeployment scheme
- the SNA workforce development plan
- changes to a 2014 circular.

In all these negotiations, we will continue to fight for fairness and respect for SNAs, for recognition of the essential role SNAs play in education and for better resourcing of inclusive education.

Members, check your emails, and see you you at the protests tomorrow!

SNA update: See comments for other protests taking place.

We're supporting all the protests taking place this week against reductions in SNA jobs in mainstream classes. We encourage all members to attend one of the protests and join the call for the cancellation of all SNA job losses in our schools. Below is a non-exhaustive list, as more are being organised locally.

Monday 23rd February:

12pm - Bull Ring, Wexford.

Wednesday 25th February:

2pm - The Square, Castlerea, Roscommon.
5pm - Outside the Dáil, Kildare Street, Dublin.
5pm - Merchants Quay, Limerick.
5pm - Market Square, Buncrana, Donegal.
5pm - Outside the Office of the Minister for Education, Woodquay Court, Galway.
5pm - Crescent Quay, Wexford.
5pm - City Hall, Sligo.
5pm - The Square, Dundalk.
5pm - St. Conleth’s Parish Church, Newbridge, Kildare.
5pm - The Courthouse, Monaghan.
5pm - City Hall, Cork.
5.15pm - Ardee Monastry NS, Louth.
6pm - Cavan Court House, Cavan.

A protest against the proposed cuts to SNA allocations will take place next week outside the Dáil on Wednesday 25th February at 5pm. We’ll be supporting this protest.

We encourage all SNA members in the greater Dublin area to attend if they can, to show support for the demand that the cuts should be withdrawn.

This protest is supported by a range of political parties, parents associations, and campaign groups, as well as Fórsa.

Other protests are being organised in different parts of the Country on the same day, and we encourage members to attend if one is organised in your area.
We have not yet heard from the Government on what they now plan to do after their announcement of a pause to the job cuts.

This crisis has emphasised the need for the Minister to change the approach to the provision of SNA supports for students to a needs-based service rather than a service that is rationed within budgetary constraints.
