I know it could be very exciting and sometimes perhaps little bit overwhelming setting up and creating the ideal safe environment. It is definitely proven, if we create a safe good sleep environment, it will help your little baby develop a very good sleeping habit.
It is advised that you need to keep the room temperature between 16-20 degrees, at night time and nap times as well. It will help your little one achieve a deeper and more restful sleep. Also important to dress your baby accordingly to the season and to the weather, so you could avoid any overheating. You always need to place your baby on her/his back when it is sleep time and the baby’s foot touches the end of the cot. The cot must have a firm, waterproof, brand new mattress, without cot bumpers, toys, cushions or loose bedding. I also would like to advise you not positioning your baby cot right next to a radiator or source of heat, and also avoid any drafty windows. The next thing is probably one of the most important to consider is the light in the nursery. I encourage you to put some attention of the lights during daytime naps and night sleeps, it is advisable to opt for a practical good blackout curtain, the darker is the better in the nursery during sleep. Any light peaks in would stimulate and give the message to your little one to wake up, than it could be difficult falling back to sleep. If you are thinking of using sounds, such as calming music or lullabies in the nursery, in my opinion these could become sleep associated and possible could wake up your baby when it’s turned off. Instead try to use white noise machines if you like, but again it is important to note that white noise machines won’t put your little one to sleep, it is just helping to illuminate outside noises. It is necessary to keep your nursery simple, nice and calm and avoid anything what could overstimulates your little baby. I know there is a good few things to consider before starting to set up the perfect nursery for your little one, but I encourage you to make a list before, so you can be sure the nursery safe and meeting all the safety sleep guidelines.
