Challenging behaviour is ALWAYS a sign of something deeper going on below the surface. It can be difficult not to react when faced with anger and aggression, however when we do the behaviour inevitably escalates. Freud maintained that our conscious behaviour is only the visible 10% of our psyche. Rather than purely cognitive processing at a conscious level, play and creative art therapies allow children to access memories and feeling bypassing conscious control. Creative experimentation enables children to explore challenging topics indirectly. In play therapy we work at both a conscious and unconscious level, we provide the tools for children to externalise their inner worlds in a tangible way which facilitates them to cope with emotions which would otherwise overwhelm them.

In play therapy we are guided by a set of principles which centre upon the believe that each child possess within themselves the ability to solve his/her own problems. Our job is to create the conditions that make this possible, we do this by providing a warm and accepting space with a comprehensive range of play and expressive art therapies, what we call our 'Play Therapy Tool Kit' which enable us to follow the child's lead.
