We covered this story from Clare FM last week and there is more extensive coverage in this week's The Clare Champion , both on the front page and page 2.

The issue of just 2 ambulances being available for North and West Clare has been raised many times over the past number of years. There have been many occasions where ambulances have been unable to attend call outs due to being deployed elsewhere. We are lucky that we have an excellent Fire Service which can offer support but this cannot and should not be the solution for more serious incidents.

Cllr. Shannon's support for additional resources is welcome but like hospital services in our county, requests for additional services have been ignored in the past. As a representative of one of the Government parties we would hope that the councillor will continue to raise this issue making it clear that the current situation is unacceptable.

Today is World Patient Safety Day whose aim is to raise awareness about patient safety and to reduce patient harm.

Unsafe care leads to preventable injuries and deaths.

๐Ÿ’”What a sad indictment of health provision in Clare.

Sarah, a young 23 year old girl has been treated appallingly by a system which increasingly fails to protect the most vulnerable in our communities.

HSE Mid West and HSE Ireland have ignored the people of Clare for many years and Sarah is one of many who pay a high price as a result. Sarah has a long journey to . She should be able to access help and support much closer to home.

Thank you to Sarah for having the courage to raise and highlight this issue and we wish her all the best for the future. We hope she will be able to live a happy and healthy life with full support for her Gastroparesis.

โš ๏ธ Two incidents in one day

Cliffs of Moher - the facts:

๐Ÿ›‘The most popular and most visited tourist attraction in Ireland with over one and a half million visitors each year.

(manufactured Guinness Storehouse doesn't count ๐Ÿ™‚)

๐Ÿ›‘ Promoted heavily by Fรกilte Ireland both at home and overseas

๐Ÿ›‘ Promoted heavily by Visit Clare

๐Ÿ›‘ Cliffs are a minimum of 1 hour 15 minutes travelling time on a good day to Emergency Department. is a minimum of 1 hour 40 minutes.

๐Ÿ›‘ The road from the Cliffs to is narrow in places especially with the volume of traffic, through Liscannor, Lahinch, Ennistymon (with the infamous Blake's corner), Inagh, Ennis, the M18 through to Limerick and Limerick tunnel to ED.

๐Ÿ›‘ Despite motions passed and proposals from Clare County Council councillors to support an additional Hospital in the county there is a failure to acknowledge and deal with the current difficult travelling conditions. The quest for a much deserved hospital for the people of Clare should not be dealt with in isolation.

๐Ÿ›‘The poor road conditions on the roads of North and West Clare are not just embarrassing but dangerous. There is one primary road from the Cliffs to and it is a disgrace to drive on. Full respect to our emergency crews, ambulance, Garda and fire services who regularly use this road to respond to all emergency calls.

Blake's corner is one such area where there are constant delays. Delays which are not always reflected on Google maps as many of us know to our cost.
Clare County Council has repeatedly failed to address this issue.

These are the figures for Ennis Hospital on sample dates in August.

There is no justification or explanation for this.
Much larger hospitals with Emergency Departments have less patients on trolleys than our local 52 bed hospital.

Ennis hospital which provides the people of Clare with amazing services but has NO Emergency Department.

The long delays while waiting for an ambulance in Clare is nothing unusual. It is something that is highlighted regularly and should be a familiar story to Cllr. Shannon in his role as a public representative.

The statement from the National Ambulance Service clarifies how calls are prioritised. However, this is unhelpful to those whose needs are not being met and are being failed again by our health services.

It is noted that while NAS acknowledge a large increase in calls to the 999 service from 390,000 in 2023 to 430,000 in 2024 it offers no solutions. Increased resources with a proper understanding of the needs of the county is necessary and vital.

Yet another failure in the Mid-West Hospital Campaign region by HSE Ireland and our politicians.

02/09/2025

As we await the publication of the much delayed
'enquiry' to establish if an additional Emergency Department can be justified in the Mid West region we will post evidence as to why we, in Clare, have been misled by
HSE Ireland
Roinn Slรกinte, Department of Health,
Fianna Fรกil
Fine Gael, their Government partners and independents, our own Dรกil and Seanad representatives and various 'spokespersons' for the past 16+ years.

The responsibility for the unnecessary deaths, the long term health effects, the suffering of so many lies squarely on those who have consistently failed us all for 16+ years.
This page will share excerpts from our presentation to HIQA, with a particular focus on the County Clare submission.

For over 16 years, information on the absence of Emergency Department provision in County Clare and it's impact on the health of the population has been available to political representatives, the HSE, and Roinn Slรกinte.

Despite access to extensive resources, those responsible for the health and welfare of the people of County Clare have been reactive rather than proactive. This neglect amounts to a clear dereliction of duty.

We are encouraged, however, to see some information obtained by campaigners and volunteers is now being used and echoed by politicians across the spectrum.

Our hope is that the information presented on this page will underline the urgent need for an additional acute hospital in Clare.

We welcome your thoughts, input, and continued support.

Together, we can make a real difference.
