Richard is based in Seacrest, Knocknacarra practice. Richard Hughes opened for business in Corner House, Woodquay on the 1st of November 1983 with one vision, a professional commitment to eye care excellence in Galway. Mayo trained and completed his degree in Optometry in D.I.T Kevin St. Dublin, he worked in many different types of practices throughout Ireland and the U.K before deciding to return to Galway. For the past 28 years Richard has expanded the business with a new branch in Seacrest Knocknacarra in 2001, and also has clinics in Carna, Carraroe, and Spiddal. In Optics over the past 28 years there has been a huge change in technology in testing equipment, spectacles and contact lenses, Richard strongly believes the success with his business is a combination of excellent customer service, product knowledge and keeping up to date with the latest optical equipment and newly advanced testing techniques. As Richard qualified in 1980 he feels that it is very important to continue to educate himself in Optics and recently received a Diploma specialising in Sportsvision, he also specialises in Low Vision and Visual Stress ( Colorimetry ) and Schoolvision. Both practices consists of 9 employees combined of Dispensing Opticians, Lab Technicians and Optical Clinical Assistants, in 2006 Richard was delighted to have on board his niece Melanie McGovern as the resident optometrist in the Woodquay practice, Melanie also graduated in Optometry in D.I.T Kevin Street as her uncle did previously. We are delighted over the last few years to serve The West with over 28years experience and commitment to optical services, and hope to serve our existing customers and a “ Cead mile fáilte” to new customers to both our practices Woodquay and Seacrest, Knocknacarra. Richard only practices in Knocknacarra and is no longer in the Woodquay practice.
