Hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin produces more melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour.

The most common types are:
MELASMA caused by hormone fluctuations as in pregnancy, use of birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy.
SUNSPOTS also called liver spots or solar lentigines are the most common. Generally they appear on spots on areas exposed to the sun like the face, decollette and hands. Note freckles are a genetic disposition.
POST INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION occurs after an injury such as cuts, burns or acne.
Certain medications can also produce hyperpigmentation.

For the majority of us hyperpigmentation occurs due to exposure to sun and like a time bomb they do not show up for a decade or two later! ๐Ÿค’You are sure to notice on sunnier days these darker areas or spots will be more prominent from exposure to sun.
Using SPF 50 daily and not just when the sun is out is by far the best way to avoid getting hyperpigmentation and prevents spots from becoming darker.
Using a Vitamin C antioxidant helps to inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase which helps to prevent melanin production.
Hydroquinone is a pigment inhibitor that lightens and brightens.
There is a solution to every problem beauts๐Ÿฅฐ

Why should you invest in Skincare? Well why do we invest in anything?๐Ÿค”Whatever we invest in should pay dividends and the secret is to invest wisely or pay later!
๐Ÿ˜€The absolute truth is less than great skin habits will catch up with you eventually! Your skin is the largest organ in your body and is really worth minding. Investing in a good skin care regimen lays down the groundwork for keeping our skin barrier healthy and glowing, helps with antiaging, prevents skin problems and manages any skin conditions that we may have as eczema, acne etc. Of course it also can prevent any skin cancer conditions as melanoma etc.
๐Ÿ˜€One thing I am sure of you are lovely as you are but like a singer who wants to project his voice to people who want to enjoy and listen..well Skincare is my forte and profession!
๐Ÿ˜€There is a plethora of information, treatments and products online and everywhere that is mind-boggling! I can attest as an Esthetician for over 30 years that it does not have to be so complicated or difficult to improve skin at any age.
๐Ÿ˜€A good daily and nightly routine is a must and the very basics are cleansing, moisturise and SPF!
Of course there is more in the pursuit of near perfection but in every case it is vital that you are using the right products for your skin and know exactly what you need.
Your skin is a good investment and not an expense and getting the proper advice ultimately can save your pocket and your skin.
If you want to get the best advice for your skin you can DM me for skin consultation online via Zoom or at my Skin Care Studio.

TO BOTOX OR NOT!
This is a topic I get asked about all the time from women (and men!) spanning the ages from 23 to 70. BOTOX is the No. 1 cosmetic procedure across the globe that smoothens or eliminates lines or wrinkles on the face mainly on the forehead, between the brows or around the eyes.
๐Ÿ™‚ BOTOX has been used by the Medical Profession since the 1970's for spasms, pain and anywhere muscles need to be relaxed. It works in the same way for the face whereby when injected it literally paralyses the muscle around the area to be treated and so the lines or wrinkles do not move anymore and are smoothened.
๐Ÿ™‚The injections are merely like pinpricks and nothing to be terrified and over and out in a matter of minutes๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
๐Ÿ™‚The effects generally kick in within a week and reveals a fresher, more line free, not so tired looking you!๐Ÿ˜€The beauty too of getting botox is the fact that it prevents future lines from developing as you are no longer contracting those muscles.
๐Ÿ™‚The effects last about 3 months or more and longer if you are having it done on an ongoing basis.
๐Ÿ˜€Let's face it there are some lines that we just might rather banish and ain't it good to know there is something that actually works almost instantly!๐Ÿ˜€ The choice is always yours to decide to botox or not!
๐Ÿ˜€BOTOX is considered safe and is FDA approved and should only be administered by a very experienced licenced practitioner.
๐Ÿ™‚At In you Prime Skin Care Studio I have a resident Doctor attending for 18 years and with 20 years experience and his next clinic is Wednesday August 5th
๐Ÿ™‚If BOTOX is something you are considering or want to have done you can DM me here.

There are just some things you really need in life and Vitamin A in skin care is one of them beauts๐Ÿฅฐ

๐ŸŽ‡Back in the 80's Vitamin A (Retin A) as a prescription was used to treat acne and they discovered its antiaging properties to be so effective. I can personally attest to this as I was on it back then for acne vulgaris and hence my journey to become an esthetician๐Ÿฅฐ

Vitamin A thickens and stimulates the dermis where your collagen elastin and blood vessels are so it reduces wrinkles and increases blood flow to the surface of the skin. This is why you should be using it to help age more gracefully but more importantly so our skin is healthier as we age. In essence it can undo certain damages on skin๐Ÿคธโ€โ™€๏ธ

It also helps to reduce symptoms of rosacea, decreases clustering of melanin granules so reducing brown spots or pigmentation and in eradication of precancerous cells.

๐ŸŽ‡Both Retinoids and Retinol are derivatives of Vitamin A.
Retinoids are the umbrella term for the chemical compounds often in concentration that requires a prescription which has a higher active concentration on skin. It works at a much more profound level causing enhanced collagen production, skin smoothing and evening of pigmentation.
Retinol is of a lower concentration that can be found in over the counter products.
Retinoids are known to break down in sunlight so are best applied at night.
Both are effective in the antiaging process so either/or it's a must beauts for your skincare routine.

๐ŸŽ‡My best advice is to get proper advice from a doctor/ dermatologist or licenced esthetician as my good self๐Ÿ˜ƒ when embarking on using such a powerful ingredient properly as there are and's, if's and buts you need to be aware of๐Ÿฅฐ

Sunscreen is the most effective skincare against premature ageing and skin cancer but to choose the right one for you, you need to know the difference between Physical and Chemical Sunscreens. Listen up!๐Ÿ˜Ž

PHYSICAL/ SUNSCREENS also known as Mineral Sunscreen create a physical barrier between your skin and the sun and deflect the UV rays.
The two most common ingredients are zinc and titanium dioxide. Zinc is a powerful antioxidant and best ingredient for sunscreen and is easy on sensitive skin as zinc known for soothing inflammation. Titanium dioxide works as the UV filtering ingredient.
Physical sunscreens can be found alone in sunscreens or can be used alongside chemical ingredients.
They give instant protection as they work once applied on skin. They are formulated to offer broad spectrum protection from UVA rays and UVB rays.
Their consistency is generally thicker and whiter but are easier to see where you have applied and must be blended in well. Oilier skin types may find physical sunscreens a bit heavy.

CHEMICAL SUNSCREENS contain compounds like oxybenzone and octinoxate that create a chemical reaction on the skin's surface that changes UV rays into heat and releases the heat from the skin.
They are easier formulated with other ingredients so they generally will have the addition of beneficial skincare ingredients like peptides, antioxidants or enzymes and offer broad spectrum.
You need to wait for 20 minutes after applying for sunscreen to become effective.
Chemical sunscreens can be irritating for sensitive skins and not recommended for children.
They are thinner and lighter in texture so easier to apply and suitable for both dry and oily skins.
So beauts๐Ÿฅฐthe main thing is you are protecting your skin from the rays and choose one that works for you best and one you like so that you will wear it every day!
Don't forget to like below and comment with any question or let me know what sunscreen you are using๐Ÿฅฐ

If trees could talk! This mighty one (well the trunk of it!) at Portumna Forest Park was the playground for us as children, climbing up on it, falling from it, making friends, lots of fun and frolics!๐Ÿ˜Š
You only have to look outside your own window in Ireland and there's natural beauty everywhere. Thank God we can go outside and enjoy this glorious day๐Ÿ˜™

SPF is not just a summer affair! No beauts Sun Protection Factor is an all year round fling๐Ÿ˜…SPF protects us from UV rays and should be part of your routine as an effective way to fight off burning, wrinkles, dark spots, premature ageing, skin cancer and melanoma.. listen up for your skin sake๐Ÿ˜Ž

number indicated on products is a guide to exposure time that gives you protection from UVB Ray's without burning.

tells us how long after application we need to reapply sunscreen. If you normally start to burn after say 10 minutes and are using an SPF 15 you are protected for 150 minutes ..the formula is 15 x 10

higher the SPF factor number is the longer protection you have but in any case reapplying every few hours is the best prevention especially if you are outdoors sweating or in the water.

To ensure you are fully protected look for a "broad spectrum" sunscreen as this will protect you from the UVA rays, the aging rays and not just the UVB rays or the 'burning rays'

Every morning like clockwork I apply sunscreen no matter the weather. My absolute faves are Decleor Aloe Sun Face Cream SPF 50 or Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50.

Protect yourself beauts all in the name of good skin and stay safe๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜Ž
