Kenmare Mindfulness & Yoga Yoga with Darina Yoga and Mindfulness with Darina O’ Shea. Darina O’ Shea has spent over 15 years practising yoga and meditation. What is Yoga?

She offers weekly yoga and mindfulness classes and 8-week MBSR (Minfulness Based Stress Reduction) courses. Darina is a certified MBSR teacher with the Institute of Mindfulness-Based Approaches. She has completed courses run by the Mindfulness In Schools Project (MISP) in Dublin and London. She now introduces mindfulness into schools. Yoga is a physical science which gives us increased flexibility

and strength, curing, relieving or preventing injuries, aches and pains and stiffness. Research shows that ageing is directly related to the stiffness of the spine. The more flexible the spine is the slower the ageing process. You don’t have to be flexible to do Yoga. A regular practice improves posture, breathing and detoxifies the body. Yoga is also a mental science, fitness training for the mind .It is a Mindfulness practice. What is Mindfulness? Mindfulness is learning to direct our attention to our experience as it unfolds, with kindness and acceptance. Rather than worrying about what has happened or might happen, it trains us to explore and respond skilfully, rather than react, to whatever is happening right now, whether we like it or not. Neuroscience has made compelling discoveries about the brain’s capacity to grow and change, throughout life. Research at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University has shown, using MRI brain scanning technology that eight weeks of MBSR training leads to the thickening of a number of different regions of the brain associated with learning, memory, and emotion regulation. They also found that areas associated with stress and anxiety were thinner after the eight week course. Darina offers 8-week courses to adults, where the focus is on experiential learning in a small group setting. (12 max) Participants have shared how the course has positively impacted their lives. Testimonials can be seen on my website. Yoga and Mindfulness lead to a greater understanding of the body and mind empowering us to connect to peace of mind and inner freedom.

As blackberries ripen in the hedgerows, we slow down to receive the season’s deep nourishment.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is the Earth season — a time to strengthen the stomach and spleen, replenish energy, and reset body and mind.

In our practice:

🌿 Yin & restorative poses to awaken rest–digest, nourish the stomach and spleen & energy centres
🌿 Neuromuscular locks (bandhas) to balance hormones and support inner vitality

Monday
10:00–11:15 – Mixed Level
12:00 – Easier pace: strength, flexibility & hormonal balance

Tuesday
6:15–7:30pm – Mixed Level

We’ll flow through uplifting, heart-opening poses and focus on the solar plexus chakra (your inner sun ☀️) — the area around your belly that’s linked to confidence, energy, and digestion. It’s where you process not just food, but also thoughts and emotions. When this centre is balanced, you feel strong, clear, and empowered.

Expect detoxing breathwork (kriyas) energizing movement, core activation and neuromuscular locks (bandhas) to help release stuck energy, support digestion,balance hormones and boost your inner fire. With regular practice, say goodbye to bloating and sluggishness!

In the Sunday session, we will focus on heart health.Yoga as a preventative for heart disease.
Exercises,, that rev up the heart, are'nt the only way.

What to expect,
Dynamic and flowing movements,
specific postures, dynamic and restorative, to free up tension in the thoracic area and energise the heart by directly targeting the heart chakra (energy centre) and meridians (energy channels)

Heart centred;
breathing techniques (pranayama),
detoxing and unblocking tools (kriyas),
neluromuscular locks to balance the hormones and increase energy (bandhas),
Meditation ,
Deep relaxation .

All these techniques result in stress reduction, improved cardiovascular function , enhanced respiratory and digestive function .

These Yogic techniques have been scientifically proven to increase circulation,lower blood pressure ,cholesterol,
blood glucose and reduce heart rate.

Yoga is a journey out of the head and into the heart ❤️

When our hearts are open and receptive, we are present to fully enjoy our lives and can respond to the challenges from a place of love and compassion.

Sunday Morning Mindfulness and yoga,welcoming in Bealtaine,which means "Bright fire"in Old Irish,because in Celtic tradition,this holiday was a fire festival.Druids were in charge of lighting giant bonfires on the tops of hills .Farmers would lead their cattle around the fires in a ritual that was meant to protect their animals from disease.

In the Sunday session, expect to ignite and increase your inner fire. cleansing and energising , body mind and heart.

There will be a focus on the solar plexus naval chakra (energy centre).
This will increase the metabolic fire improving digestion.When this energy centre is balanced, digestive issues dissappear.We feel confident,spontaneous, playful, and able to take risks.

The organ associated with early summer is the heart.The poses will focus on freeing up the heart energy channels.This is a time of blossoming and connecting to our hearts' desires .It is the height of the growing season, a fertile time,when whatever we unite our energy with will expand and grow. ☀️🥰

On the way back from an unforgettable trip to India.It was amazing to return after 25 years and spend time with my very first Yoga teacher, the Himalayan Yoga Master Bharat Takur ,the reason I am a yoga teacher.
This retreat was called Shoonya, planting the seeds of stillness,through yoga,meditation, music ,art, blissful ganga swims, culture,delicious food ,great company and much more.I am feeling super grateful, inspired and excited to start classes again after the Easter Holidays.

Celebrating Ostara-the Spring Equinox with Live Music, Yoga and Mindfulness. Please share 🙏

The yoga practice will be accessible to every body.There will be plenty of options to suit your needs.

In ancient times, the beginning of the year was at the Spring Equinox .We emerge from the cold, dark days of winter ,leaving behind what we no longer need and take our first steps into new beginnings with purpose, lightness, and joy.

The yoga class will reflect this theme .We will use the poses and breathing techniques to release stored heaviness from the winter.
There will be a focus on the liver and gallbladder meridians (energy channels), which support the bodies natural digestive and detoxification functions.We will explore the Equinox theme of balance.

The combination of live music,yoga, and mindfulness is a fantastic way to connect to our hearts' desires. Whatever seeds of intention are planted now will expand and grow 😊🌱✨
