An absolute proud day for Galway 🥳 This morning Galway launched as the 1st Inclusive Recovery City in Ireland 💜 This is the beginning of collective action in the city where organisations, people in recovery and supporters will be working together to create inclusive structures and opportunities for connection and sustaining positive change. This initiative will build a city-wide culture of inclusion, reducing stigma and ensuring that recovery is visible and a celebrated part of Galways social fabric.

Thanks to Deputy Mayor of Galway Niall McNelis for officially launching and supporting the event. Thanks to Professor Jo-Hanna Ivers and David Best for their presentations on 'Building an IRC' and 'Sytematic Recovery Capital'.

Thanks to our wonderful panel members for sharing their experience - Michéal Durcan, Brendan Murphy, Linda Sice Brogan and Aisling Colreavy. The biggest thanks today goes to our 4 personal experience panel members and amazing people in recovery who are true advocates for positive change 👏👏👏

It is an absolute privilege to work with people in recovery and watch them grow on their journey towards building a meaningful life. On Monday we celebrated hope inspring people in recovery for international recovery day. We were joined with the wonderful David Best who captivated the audience with his work on recovery inclusive cities. We were joined by the inspiring Dot Smith from Recovery Connections who shared her experience of building a peer led recovery service and implementing a recovery inclusive city. Big thanks to James Leonard who was Mc for the event and brought such empathy, compassion and fun to the day. Thanks to Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force, SMART Recovery Ireland & South West Mayo Development Company CLG for funding this event!

September is recovery month and we are very excited for this years 'Celebrating Recovery Day' in Galway. This is our 3rd year making recovery visible and celebrating people who have changed their lives around.

James Leonard (Well known in the recovery field for his former Two Norries Podcast) will be our dynamic MC on the day who will talk to a number of nominated 'hope inspiring people' in recovery about their journey.

We will be joined by 2 well known champions of recovery Prof. David Best and CEO of Recovery Connections - Dot Smith who will share their experience on implementing a 'Recovery Inclusive City' and explore the development of this for Galway. The space will be created for professional and personal input in creating a 'Recovery Inclusive City' in Galway on the day.

The WRDATF Regional Recovery strategy will be launched at this event

Some of Galways 'On the Right Road' Cycling Club were delighted to welcome the inspirational Ballymum Recovery Cycling Club before they set off on their coast to coast cycle from Galway to Dublin. Delighted to have the Venture Out outdoor personal development programme starting again in April. Great to see such interest in the programme from people in recovery 👏

The final count down is on to the start of our next 'New Routes' Programme

This exciting outdoor personal development programme starts on April 10th and will run every Wednesday morning until June. Its based in Galway city and is designed to target adults of all ages in recovery or at risk of form of addiction.

We'd like to thank the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task force for their support in funding this programme again in 2024 and we look forward to working with all participants over the coming months.

The 1st round of the 2024 recovery bursaries are now available. 1st closing date is 11th of March. Further education and recovery support bursaries are for people in recovery and innovation bursaries are available for organisations supporting people in recovery
