Amerta Movement is a free-form movement practice developed by Suprapto Suryodarmo (pictured).

It is difficult to describe in English, as its very nature is "to open the point rather than fix the point." To experience life through movement rather than fixity.

The quotation below from the book Embodied Lives sums it up well.

As Bloom, Galanter, and Reeve (2014)

describe:

"Amerta Movement may be seen as cultivating an embodied approach to life through the practice of movement as a skilled art. It seems to reach beyond 'movement meditation' or 'dance' into a movement world that is uniquely sensitising and integrative.

Amerta Movement differs from most other traditional movement arts, like Tai Chi or Yoga, or somatic practices like the Feldenkrais Method or Alexander Technique, because Amerta has no set form, no pre-existing patterns or series of movements.

There is nothing to follow except one's own experience on all levels, but especially sensory-motoric -our bodies, on the Earth, and responsive to gravity."
If you feel drawn to this work, Claire Osborne and I are hosting an in person workshop in May in Cork.See the link in the bio or DM for details.

Allowing ourselves to soften is sometimes the only way forward ✨️

Restriction or holding stops the natural flow of movement and the body's ability to regulate. What we do in our minds is reflected in our body and vice versa. It may feel vulnerable at first, but it can also be a source of dynamic strength and resiliency.

Explore this concept and more at my somatic movement workshops . The next workshop is this Saturday at 11.30 .

Combing somatic movement and art making has enabled me to find other ways into embodiment and expand my understanding of body's experiences.Somatic movement supports the release of stress and unhealthy patterns which can be held in the body. Art making adds another medium for connection to the body and allows for new connections and perspectives to evolve.
If you feel drawn to trying this work, my next in person workshop is in April. See the link in the bio..
