“You are your own worst critic”. It is very true that most of us are hard on ourselves. Many seem to find it hard to switch off the inner critic, and for some people it can feel almost impossible to treat or speak to themselves in a kind or caring manner. Self criticism keeps our nervous system in threat mode. Self-compassion does the opposite.

Even 3 minutes of soothing self-talk can help activate the soothe system, calm your body, reduce overwhelm, and create space to respond instead of react.

You don’t need to fix everything right now. You just need safety first. 🤍

Have you ever thought “Why am I thinking this?” - you are not alone! ✨

Intrusive thoughts are unwanted, distressing thoughts that pop into our minds. Everyone has them, but anxiety can make them feel louder and scarier.

It’s important to remember:
✅ Your thoughts are not facts. 📈
✅You don’t have to engage or argue with them⛔️
✅ Kindness towards yourself is more important than control 💛
✅You are not your thoughts. You are the observer of them 🔍👀

Have you been feeling anxious lately but unsure where to turn? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷

My clients often tell me they felt nervous before first reaching out for support, especially with so many different therapeutic and wellness options out there.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely researched, evidence-based psychological treatments for anxiety. 📚 It is shown to be as effective as medication in clinical trials with longer-lasting benefits because it teaches skills to manage anxiety after treatment ends, whereas medication effects typically stop when you stop taking the pills.

Unlike unregulated approaches, CBT is delivered by trained, regulated clinicians and is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence using proven methods to help you take back control of your anxiety by learning tools to manage it 💪🏼

If you would like to explore whether CBT may be helpful for you, please feel free to get in touch.

✨ The Importance of Expressing Emotions

My clients will always hear me talking about the importance of expressing, not suppressing their emotions.

In today’s fast-paced world—where wellness is trending but emotional authenticity often isn’t—we’ve been conditioned to “keep calm and carry on.” Or in other words: suppress.

But at what cost?

Suppressing emotions doesn’t make them disappear. It can bury them deeper. And over time, that emotional build-up can manifest as anxiety, burnout, disconnection, depression or even physical illness.

Through psychological therapy, we often uncover where the emotional suppression may have originated perhaps you were taught to be “strong,” “good,” or “quiet.” Or maybe big emotions, were met with ridicule, discomfort, criticism, or even punishment.

For some, suppression is survival—but is it sustainable?

A reminder:
🧠 Emotions are NOT weaknesses.✅
💬 Expressing them is NOT oversharing.✅
❤️ Feeling them is NOT failure.✅

Expression is healing.

Let’s normalise ALL the feelings, and give ourselves permission to feel it all and use our emotions as important information rather than something we need to get rid off.

💫 Seasonal Self Care 💫

🎄Exercising, especially outdoors in natural light can help boost your mood

🎄While keeping active is important, its also important to take a rest and switch off. Set boundaries with your time and don’t overstretch yourself.

🎄 Limit your social media usage. Try to be present. Why not try some arts and crafts or baking and become fully absorbed in a creative activity.

🎄 With the busyness that comes with Christmas, it can be easy to get caught up and forget to connect with those who are important to us. Try to check in and protect some time for friends and family.

I cant believe that today is the first day of my last ever placement on the DClinPsy. 🥺🥺 It’s all going so quickly!

Our final year placement is a year long placement which focuses on gaining specialist skills and developing our leadership competencies.

For my final year specialist placement, I will be split between a Staff Support team and the Paediatrics Child Health team. 👩‍⚕️🏥👨‍⚕️

In staff support, I will be providing support to staff individually, teams and leaders, supporting them with a whole host of work related challenges, trauma/critical incidents. I am so looking forward to the different opportunities and experiences this placements will offer and I cannot wait to get stuck in 👏🏻☺️

The 10th of September is World su***de prevention Day. 🎗Although su***de prevention should be prioritised each and every day, the 10th provides the opportunity to come together as a community, to shine a light on su***de and its prevention.🕯💫

People with lived experience of su***de and su***de bereavement continue to enrich, inform and strengthen our understanding and our ability to prevent su***de. 💛

World Su***de Prevention Day 2023 aims to encourage 'Creating Hope Through Action'. This theme draws attention to the fact that there is an alternative to su***de and aims to inspire confidence and light in all of us. 💛 It is important to encourage understanding and compassion by reaching out, providing a helping hand or a listening ear.👂🏻💕🤝

If you are struggling, please try to remember that suicidal pain is temporary and that things can and do improve, so please hold on. 🙏
