Meath Civil Defence Civil Defence is a volunteer based humanitarian organisation dedicated to assisting the community

Civil Defence was established by the Government in 1950 under the Air Raid Precautions Acts of 1939 and 1946 and the Civil Defence Act of 2002

Training programmes include:

* First Aid
* Rescue skills
* Radio Communications
* Map Reading skills
* Fire-fighting skills
* Welfare and catering
* Radiological monitoring and sampling
* Search skills
* Water search using boats and kayaks

We had an excellent informative presentation tonight at our HQ on Emergency Management by Kealan McMoreland, Principal Officer at the Office of Emergency Management and former volunteer with Meath Civil Defence. This weekend saw the annual Dunshaughlin Harvest Festival with a great array of attractions for all ages in the town. Great crowds came out to support the event. Our volunteers were on duty throughout the weekend providing ambulance and medical cover. We also had two other duties on with the opening of Meath County Council's Thrive enterprise hub in the IDA business park, Johnstown, Navan on Friday evening and the Enfield stage of the walk4ollie from Donegal in aid of Muscular Dystrophy Ireland. Thank you to all of our volunteers who made themselves available for the duties over the weekend

Forty eight of our volunteers attended a medal presentation ceremony in Maynooth university today as part of the 75th anniversary of the founding of Civil Defence. Volunteers from Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow were in attendance in the first of three events to celebrate with Volunteers from every county. Minister for State James Lawless addressed the gathering on behalf of the Minister for Defence and the government and thanked all volunteers past and present for their service to Civil Defence and their communities. Jason Kearney Director of Civil Defence in the Department of Defence presented a medal to each volunteer in the presence of officials from each of the seven local authorities. Brian Gillen, CDO gave a brief outline of the history of the awarding of medals to Civil Defence volunteers. Congratulations to all involved
