What should you do after sustaining an injury ❓

After injury, a popular approach many people take is to implement the RICE protocol. While there isn’t anything necessarily wrong with this, there is a better approach to take to ensure optimal recovery from injury: the PEACE and LOVE protocol ✌️🫶

Particular emphasis should be placed on loading the injury early in a safe and appropriate manner. A study by Bayer et al. (2017) found that starting rehab early (< 2 days post injury) vs delaying rehab (> 9 days post injury) can lead to an earlier return to sport by up to 3 weeks! 💪

If you have any questions about the PEACE and LOVE protocol, or if you have sustained an injury, feel free to get in touch!

What is a Certified Athletic Therapist
(CAT) ❓

A CAT is a healthcare professional that members of the public can seek direct access to prevent, assess, diagnose, treat and rehab any musculoskeletal injuries they may have.

Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland (ARTI) is the governing body responsible for the regulation, promotion and continued development of CATs in Ireland, and is part of the World Federation of Athletic Therapy and Training (WFATT).

Despite what the title may suggest, CATs can work with a wide variety of people, from young to old, active to sedentary - not just athletes. My main goal is to get you pain free and back to what you enjoy doing most - whether that be playing sport, returning to work or carrying out your day to day activities!💪

If you are struggling with an injury or have any questions about what it is I do, feel free to send me a message!

Delighted to announce that I’m now offering dry needling as a treatment option having completed my training last weekend in Dun Laoghaire!

Dry needling is a technique used to treat musculoskeletal conditions by using a fine needle to stimulate trigger points and adhesions in muscles and connective tissue. Some of the benefits of dry needling are mentioned above ☝️

Dry needling can help with a variety of conditions, such as muscle tightness, back pain, neck pain/headaches, tendinopathies and so much more!

Dry needling can be an extremely effective tool to reduce your pain, allowing you to kick on with your rehab and return to your favourite activity or go about your daily life pain free 💪

Struggling with an injury that’s holding you back? Book in today and get back to feeling your best!

Hi all,

I would like to welcome you to my new Athletic Therapy page! I am a newly qualified Certified Athletic Therapist from the Sports Rehabilitation and Athletic Therapy course in SETU Carlow. During my 4 years there, I completed over 500 clinical placement hours which exposed me to a wide variety of injuries. I also worked with the Kilkenny u20 hurling team that won the Leinster Championship and reached the All-Ireland final in 2025 (up Tipp).

I played numerous sports growing up and spent my fair share of time on the treatment table, which is what ultimately led to my interest in the field. I enjoy working with a wide variety of patients from high level athletes to the general population with their everyday aches and pains, and have a great passion for helping people overcome their injury struggles and return to their favourite activities pain free.

Over the coming weeks, I hope to share more about the profession of Athletic Therapy, as well as practical and evidence-based information regarding injuries and rehab. I have a keen interest in S&C also, and I’m a big advocate of using strength training for both injury recovery and living an active and healthy lifestyle.

Now available for appointments. If you are currently struggling with an injury and would like to get it assessed, you can book in by sending me a WhatsApp on 085 7633689 or you can simply DM the page!
