Physiotherapy is an important step in the recovery of function and mobility after stroke. Persistent problems that may occur after a stroke include muscle weakness or paralysis, poor balance and coordination, pain, decreased sensation, fatigue, and cognitive changes. he rehabilitation process will be different for each person and vary based on severity of the stroke. It is important to receive physiotherapy treatment after a stroke, regardless of severity, in order to restore as much physical function as possible. Even individuals after a mild stroke will benefit from physiotherapy treatment to decrease risk of falling and maintain an active lifestyle. Our mission is to help those who have suffered from a stroke to restore function and improve their quality of life through physiotherapy treatment.

Sports related injuries & conditions that keep you from the activities you love can be effectively assessed, diagnosed and treated by a physio. Sports injuries impact your musculoskeletal system (Muscle, tendons, ligaments, joints, bones & fascia). They range from acute one time traumas to repetitive strains, with symptoms/pain increasing/progressing with time.

Sandycove Physiotherapy focuses on healing sports injuries through a combination of effective scientifically proven treatments. It is our aim to identify the cause of your pain then the best ways to treat it. We give advice on resting and postural positioning and the use of ice & protective taping, to ensure the joint heals both correctly and as fast as possible. Treatment often consists of Soft Tissue Massage, Joint Mobilisations, Dry Needling, Electrotherapy, Shockwave Therapy, and Exercise Prescription. We then provide guidance through the healing process, advising you how to increase activity & your bodies bearing load. Alongside warm-up, strengthening & stability exercises to prevent re-injury and improve performance. Ensuring you return to sporting life aware of your bodies injury, yet confident that you’re building strength fast and effectively.

Exercise prescription is an important phase in optimizing normal function, relieving symptoms & preventing further injury. Exercises can focus on flexibility, strength, balance & core stability. Each program is individually designed & progressed to tailor each client specific needs.
To get our body to move less strenuously, we can’t just exercise our muscles. We also have to train them into balance. Often one muscle within our back or arm, is tighter or weaker than its companion muscles. At Sandycove physiotherapy we can assess muscles, to identify which are tight, weak, inactive or unstable.
