Nollaig na mBan, meaning Women’s Christmas, is a long standing Irish tradition celebrated on 6 January, also known as Little Christmas or the Feast of the Epiphany.

Historically, this was the day when women, having carried much of the work of Christmas, cooking, hosting and caring for family, were encouraged to rest. Men and other family members would take over household duties, allowing women time to gather with friends, enjoy a meal, or simply have some well earned space for themselves.

The tradition is especially strong in Ireland, including Donegal, and in recent years it has seen a revival as a day of celebration, reflection and appreciation of women’s roles in society, past and present.

Today, Nollaig na mBan is both a cultural tradition and a symbolic reminder of the value of women’s work, voices and contributions.

Had word that due to on going weather conditions Family Resource Centre Raphoe has decided to remain closed. We fully support them in this as we do not want to put anyone at risk. So with that in mind today's SMART Recovery meeting will NOT be going ahead.

We are really looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the first SMART Recovery meeting from Donegal this year. We are in Family Resource Centre Raphoe from 2.30-4pm and all in recovery or addiction are warmly welcomed.

So we held our last SMART Recovery meeting of 2025 today, it's was great to hear everyone's hopes and goals for the coming year and how they are intending on making them happen.

We would like to thank our wee group for all the hard work they have put into their individual journeys over the past 12 months, and we look forward to being part of your journeys in 2026.

We have had a great 2025 and thing are going to be getting bigger and better in Donegal in 2026 , watch this space.

We will see you next week in Family Resource Centre Raphoe for our regular meeting.

We would again like to express our thanks to the North West Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force for the use of their office space for our group over this holiday season while other venues were closed due to seasonal leave.

Merry Christmas from us to you. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our peers and colleagues who have engaged with us over the past 12 months. It has been an exciting time in SMART Recovery Finn Valley, and next year is looking to be just as exciting. we would also like to thank our funders for their valuable and continued support and the resource centres for hosting us on a weekly basis.

We are holding an ad hoc meeting in Letterkenny on Tuesday, 30th Dec (poster to follow in the coming days). we will be holding our first meeting of 2026 on Tuesday, 6th January, in Family Resource Centre Raphoe

We had our final meeting of the year in the Finn Valley FRC today (we still have 2 additional meetings in Letterkenny on the 23rd and 30th dec). We had a lovely Christmas party with great food curtesy of Conkers Ballybofey which was provided by Donna and the North West Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force. Our group also chipped in. We asked the group what has been the highlight of their year in SMART, this was the feedback:

As you can see people really get so much from SMART Recovery Ireland we feel privileged being part of this though our roles.

We are holding our SMART Recovery Christmas party tomorrow in the Finn Valley FRC 2.30-4pm. This is our only closed meeting of the year.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our attendees, our facilitators old and new, and our group visitors and speakers a very merry Christmas and a happy healthy and sober new year.

Also we would like to sincerely thank our funders, Letterkenny CDP, HSE Ireland, North West Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force, the resource centres that so openly welcome our group meetings Family Resource Centre Raphoe / Raphoe Family Resource Centre and the Finn Valley FRC. We would also like to express a word of gratitude to SMART Recovery Ireland fort their on going support of us here in SMART Recovery "Finn Valley Area, Donegal"

We have had a busy year with lots going on from the first SMART Recovery Finn Valley information event to new facilitators being trained ready for the new year. We have held different workshops at the request of our groups, different array of speakers over the year and have attended different events.

As for 2026....its looking to be an exciting year!
