Breathe Easy with Asthma
Rocklow Medical Centre

Managing asthma is more than just medication—it’s about lifestyle and awareness. Here’s how you can take control:

✅ Create an Asthma Action Plan: Collaborate with your GP or asthma nurse to develop a personalised plan.

📈 Monitor Your Symptoms: Use a peak flow meter to keep track of your lung function at home.

🚫 Avoid Triggers: Identify and steer clear of allergens, smoke, and other irritants that can exacerbate your asthma.

🏃‍♂️ Stay Active: Engage in regular physical activity to strengthen your lungs.

🧠 Mind Your Mental Health: Stress can impact asthma—ensure you’re taking care of your mental well-being.

🤝 Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out for help or join support groups.

Attention Parents, Teachers, and Young People
We want to highlight the hidden dangers of synthetic cannabinoids like Spice being used in vapes. Although sometimes marketed as safe alternative, these substances are highly addictive, unpredictable and can lead to severe health risks. We want to highlight this growing concerning use among teenagers and young people, especially with products being available online and via unregulated channels.

Synthetic cannabinoids can trigger alarming effects including anxiety, paranoia, memory loss, and potentially long-term mental and physical health issues. Given that their chemical composition is constantly altered there is no way to know how a particular batch might affect someone, making their use extremely dangerous. This risk is particularly critical for young people whose developing brains are more vulnerable to these harmful and highly addictive substances.

We urge parents and the wider community to remain vigilant, engage in open conversations about these risks, and ensure our young people stay safe. Learn more about the dangers and stay informed by visiting the resources on Drugs.ie and the latest warnings from Public Health on spice va**ng .

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has established six regional fertility hubs across Ireland to provide Assisted Human Reproduction (AHR) services, enhancing access to fertility treatments for couples facing challenges in conceiving.

Couples attempting to conceive for a year—or six months if the woman is over 35—or those with known fertility-impacting health issues can be referred by their General Practitioner (GP) to these hubs. At the hubs, patients undergo comprehensive fertility assessments conducted by specialized public fertility teams. Depending on individual needs, recommended interventions may include medical or surgical treatments, management at the hub level, or advanced procedures like in-vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic s***m injection (ICSI).

Eligible public patients are referred to one of eight HSE-approved private providers nationwide for AHR treatments. Following a referral, an initial consultation is scheduled within six weeks, with active treatment commencing within six weeks post-consultation, barring specific clinical reasons.

These initiatives reflect the HSE’s commitment to supporting individuals and couples on their fertility journey, ensuring equitable access to essential reproductive health services.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a long-term autoimmune condition that causes joint pain, swelling, and stiffness – most commonly in the hands, feet, and wrists. While there’s no cure, early diagnosis and the right treatment plan – including long-term medications and supportive therapies like physiotherapy – can help manage symptoms and reduce flare-ups.

Self care is an important part of daily life. It involves taking responsibility for your own health and wellbeing with support from people involved in your care.

It includes what you do every day to stay fit and maintain good physical and mental health, prevent illness and accidents, and manage minor ailments and long-term conditions.

People who have a long-term condition, such as rheumatoid arthritis, can benefit enormously from being supported to care for themselves. They can live longer, have a better quality of life, and be more active and independent.
