Aiseiri

Aiseiri Aiséirí is a nonprofit organisation that helps youths, adults and families to overcome addiction.

At the heart of Aiséirí are the lives and futures of people, young people, women, middle-aged men, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Ordinary people, people that you and I know, people who want to work, want to go to school, want to hope, want to care for their families and be cared for. The one thing that distinguishes them is that they are living with the despair and unhappiness of addiction. Aiséiri is a place where there is a wealth of understanding, care and experience, right here in the community, that can help them take the first vital step to recovery from their addiction. Airéirí means resurrection and our four centres are places of new beginnings. Through our evidence-based and internationally recognised residential and community programmes, people dealing with alcohol, drug and gambling addiction find help, counselling and the specialist support that they need to face the realities of their lives. Our specialist and caring staff create an environment that is therapeutic in all aspects, where each person feels valued, safe and supported as they make their journey towards recovery and new life changes.

📢 Proud to Represent Aiséirí!

We were honoured to be invited to speak at the Joint Committee on Drugs Use meeting at the Houses of the Oireachtas to discuss treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation.

✨ Mary Hennessy (CEO, Aiséirí) and Sara Cassidy (Head of Clinical Services) spoke on behalf of Aiséirí, sharing insights from our frontline work in supporting young people, individuals and families affected by addiction.

It was an opportunity to highlight the difficulties facing young people and Aiseiri’s exceptional secondary treatment services in Waterford. There is a national substance misuse problem and Aiseiri has the solutions.

Thank you to the Committee and all partners committed to improving addiction services and recovery pathways across Ireland.

We’re often amazed at how different members of the same family can be. One child might be loud and funny, another quiet and timid—yet neither seems to take after the parents.

A family is like a vegetable garden. 🌿
Each plant responds to its surroundings. The one bathed in sunlight grows differently from the one in a cool, shady corner. Vegetables growing close together may not look as strong, but sometimes they’re the most flavorful of all.

Though we share common roots, our experiences, environments, and friendships shape us in unique ways. When we compare ourselves to others, we can lose sight of who we are and feel like we don’t belong. But it’s the variety in our family garden that makes life—and the world—so rich and interesting.

✨ Reflection for today:
How can I honor another person’s uniqueness today?

“It is such a secret place, the land of tears.”
— Antoine de St. Exupéry

Where do our tears come from? Maybe each of us carries a private well, shaped by the moments that have hurt us and the moments that have brought us joy. We all respond differently to the world around us. What wounds one person may not touch another at all.

Like the oceans and rivers, that well can rise and fall, and we don’t always understand the forces that move it. Sometimes, what helps most is having someone willing to lower a bucket deep enough to meet us there. A good friend. A family member. Someone who listens without judgement.

Today, who will you invite to share your well?

📍 Aiséirí Aislinn, Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny

Today we were very pleased to welcome Minister Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, TD to Aiséirí Aislinn, Ireland’s only dedicated residential treatment service for adolescents aged 15–21.

The visit provided an important opportunity for information sharing and discussion on:

• Strengthening and harmonising referral pathways for young people nationally
• Supporting the long-term sustainability and future planning of Aislinn
• The critical role of recovery supports, aftercare, and secondary services, including Céim Eile

We were grateful for the opportunity to highlight the growing complexity of need among young people accessing treatment, including high levels of neurodiversity, and the importance of sustained, recovery-focused investment for young people and families.

🤝 Recovery begins early. Recovery needs support. Recovery changes lives.

Thought for the Day 🌿

As alcohol took hold, the harm it caused slowly outweighed any relief it once seemed to bring. Health, work, finances, even homes were lost — yet the dependence remained. What began as reliance became obsession.

In recovery, we discover a new way of living. We learn to shift from alcoholic thinking to sober thinking, and to let go of depending on drink for comfort, courage, or escape. Instead, we place our trust in a Higher Power and find a new outlook on life.

Today, we pause and reflect: Have I fully let go of that old dependence?

Meditation
Today I will aim for calmness and serenity. I will release fear, worry, and resentment, choosing constructive thoughts instead. In stillness, I allow peace to enter and become open to spiritual guidance.

Prayer
May I build up rather than tear down.
May I be constructive, not destructive.
Amen. 🙏

Happy Friday 💛
Here’s a gentle thought for today for anyone in recovery:

You don’t have to heal all at once.
Showing up today—however imperfectly—is enough. Progress counts even when it’s quiet.

Wishing everyone a calm, steady end to the week. Be kind to yourself today 🌱

“There are things for which an uncompromising stand is worthwhile.”
– Dietrich Bonhoeffer

There comes a moment when we say,
“I’m not going to live this way anymore.”

That quiet decision — to stop negotiating with pain and choose change — is where healing begins.

Today, take a stand for what truly matters.
