Girls Who Run Ireland Summer, Midterm and Easter Camps for girls 8-12 years. Mindfulness, Meditation, yoga, exercise, dance and nutrition. A toolkit to last a lifetime.

Build resilience, strength and a growth mindset into young girls. www.girlswhorunireland.ie Children's mental health matters to us. With this in mind we have developed a program that will assist in their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. This program was designed to provide a toolkit for young girls to weather the turbulent teen years so that they can feel free to express who t

hey are - All of their fears, frustrations, anger and to allow them to communicate their perfect spirit and Queen to the world. The program was designed to reach girls from all socioeconomic and ethnic groups. Confident as well as shy girls will benefit from the program, girls who’s self esteem and self worth need a boost will thrive. This is achieved by teaching girls not to expect approval from others but to accept themselves and their own self worth. We teach self respect, respect for ones self, self dicipline humility, honesty, values and acceptance. First we learn to love ourselves and love our strengths. The only person whom we have control over is ourselves. We have no control over other people, places and things but we do have control over how we perceive them. Our scars are what makes us beautiful. We each have a story to tell and we use our scars as illustrations in that story. It is our desire that each and every Queen who passes through our program feels comfortable in their own body and their own skin. We do this through mindfulness, meditation, yoga, nutrition and exercise. We show them what a positive body looks like and we encourage our little Queens to step out of the shade into the sunshine. The greatest gift I can give myself is to celebrate the gifts I have, acknowledge my strengths and to teach my daughter and our Queens to celebrate their gifts too. We want to teach them to live an inspired and full life. We want them to believe in the power of being extraordinary. She is in there. The Queen is strong, powerful, intelligent, creative and beautiful. She is just waiting for permission to reveal herself. The idea is to combine a holistic active well being camp for young girls with lessons that teach actual life skills. Share the program with your sisters, nieces, friends and fellow Queens.

Please can you sign this petition and share. Our children need the extra time to process information prior to writing/scribing/typing. A dyslexic person like myself has to read and re-read a paragraph up to 3 times to process the information correctly and efficiently. This puts me and thousands like me at a disadvantage when participating in exams.

2,412 signatures are still needed! Call for extra time for dyslexic students in Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate exams

Should have posted these last week but I had a busy weekend planning a teenagers party. Fun times ahead. Anyhow it's important I post the girls completed project that they worked hard on for the duration of the week. Turning I wish into I Will. How many times have you said.... I wish I could.... Or I wish I'd done... truth is many of us would like to achieve or do something and the only thing stopping us is having the courage to begin. During the week we spoke intensively about all the things we wish we could do and we spoke about how we could make that happen. Usually it's just practice and commitment after taking the first step and being brave enough to try. So here's a challenge for each of you. Think of something you wish you could do or did and set in motion the steps you need to take to achieve that goal. Our next programme will be in August for one week only. Its likely going to be the 15th of August, places are limited and will be on a first come basis. What are you waiting for... It's time to start your journey turning I wish into I will 😉.

Creativity allows us to view and solve problems more openly and with innovation. Creativity opens the mind and is a huge part of our program. Today we got creative with chalk. It's one of the girls favourite activities to participate in. Great job girls you created some really cool obstacles and positive affirmations for the local community to enjoy on their walk in the park 👍

Congratulations to Hanna & Katie who completed their word search on diversity and inclusion 👏

Because of the varied nature of the family and living situations of children today, it’s important to focus on teaching diversity and inclusion to children in a way that helps them understand and respect the different situations of their peers. Today we called for diversity to be celebrated and to reinforce acceptance and respect of the cultural backgrounds and family situations of all children.

We practiced meditation. The good news is that meditation can bolster children's feelings of security, empathy and inner stability, and this, in turn, builds compassion, joy and self-esteem. Meditation teaches kids – and adults – that right now is enough. Mindfulness for children helps kids gain self-awareness and become more confident. It's something the girls enjoy and they love to share the fact with you.

We also celebrated Hanna's 12th birthday with double chocolate chip muffins (sorry parents after the week that's in it, filled with chocolate eggs) but a birthday is special, it's the one day of the year we can call our own and we don't have to share with siblings (unless of course you're a twin). Each girl received a chocolate muffin to help Hanna celebrate 😉 Tomorrow is all about creativity and buckets more fun. I'm excited to see the creative juices that explode from the girls. Great job today girls, you got through a lot of the program and some even learned a new skill - Skipping!

Teamwork is working together or cooperating with others to get to an end goal. Today we demonstrated teamwork on the way to the park where each of us were joined together with the hoop and we had to walk in sync and match one another and work together properly. Functioning, or moving at the same time and pace as each other; simultaneously. It's a great exercise to teach teamwork and trust in your tribe. We were so lucky with the weather this morning, much fun was had learning some new skills i.e teamwork, coordination, synchronicity and working together to turn "I Wish into I Will". Mission completed! Great job girls 👏 👏 we also made a new friend - Gerry The 🐞. Mindfulness, being in the moment being aware and noticing our surroundings is a vital life skill. Well done Katie for spotting Gerry and sharing him with your friends ❤️

"I believe In You". 4 little words that makes a HUGE difference in a child's life 😉.

"I believe In You". 4 little words that makes a HUGE difference in a child's life 😉.

I don’t know what parent/guardian needs to hear this, but in 4th grade I took ~The Test~ to see if I could join the accelerated classes (aka “the smart kid classes”).

I failed.

One of the questions I missed -> I didn’t know the difference between a microscope and a telescope.

I remember crying in that test room because I felt so nervous and embarrassed.

I never did test into the smart kid classes. I had a teacher even suggest I wouldn’t be a good fit for Honors Science in high school.

Anyway, I ended up earning a Masters of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT.

No single test defines your child. I kept trying and I kept pushing because I had parents who believed in me. They weren’t scientists or engineers themselves but they believed I could do whatever I set my mind to.

Love your child - make them know that YOU believe they are smart and capable (even when a silly test suggests otherwise). Everything else will fall into place. ❤️

I learned from my mother
That women are strong
That life can be difficult
But we go on

She taught to be soft
On those finding life hard
To help protect those
Who’ve already been scarred

To work when I need to
But otherwise play
That night time’s for dreaming
But so is the day

To be gentle with those
Who are tough on themselves
To share out my love
But save some for myself

To stand up to those
Who would walk over me
To hold up my head
When I’m down and feel weak

To only apologise
When I am wrong
To know that there’s always
A place I belong

To trust in my future
And treasure my past
To smash it each time
That the ceiling is glass

To find the lessons
In relationships lost
Because some things in life
Are not worth what they cost

But what she taught most
About life and of worth
Was that it is only
The best I deserve

And maybe your mother
Has taught you the same
But if she has not
Well, then I’m here today

To say that you too
Deserve only the best
To live out the life
That exists in your head

To find your own strength
And to dream and stand tall
To trust you might fly
When you think you could fall

So never stop dreaming
And never give up
Cause, mother or not
You are worthy of love
