🤗Honoured to be part of the ALCI online Spring Study day, as a member of the Council ✨
Working in lactation is so much more than one role.
Yes, I absolutely love supporting mums and babies in those precious early days 🤍—there is nothing more rewarding than helping a family through their breastfeeding journey
But there’s another side to this work that I’m just as passionate about… supporting and educating other professionals. Because when we grow our knowledge together, we improve the care every family receives 💫
When mums contact me for a lactation appointment they usually have been seen by many healthcare professionals that supported them (or not!!!) in their breastfeeding journeys. Usually mums have received conflicting advice, occasionally very outdated advice, and very often lacking sensitivity, but above all the main issue is that healthcare professionals in the public service don’t have the time to do a complete and holistic assessment!!
Also, they may not have the specific expertise to identify very specific lactation issues and much less to solve them!
🤗 Do you really want to breastfeed?
👉 Them don’t waste time (and sanity!!) and get the help you need!

🌸HAPPY IBCLC DAY!!🌸
It only seemed fit that I would share with you today why I became a lactation consultant, or, how my kids say, my “origin story” 😅
I LOVE being an IBCLC and I love helping parents overcoming their bay feeding issues and helping them achieve their breastfeeding goals. But obtaining that accreditation was only the beginning! Over the years I have specialised in several areas of lactation such as tongue tie recovery, orofacialmyofuncional therapy, dysfunctional suck, suck therapy, body work, pumping, etc. I don’t think I will ever stop learning, but in this field I think thats the right way to go about it.
➡️ Has your breastfeeding journey been positively affected by an IBCLC? Let me know in comments!!!
➡️ Need breastfeeding or bottlefeeding support? DM or call 0873934195

Have you been told that your baby had a flat head because you don’t do enough tummy time with them?
THAT’s NOT TRUE!!!
The biggest factor in developing plangiocephaly is sleep position 😴
🛌Safe sleep guidelines state babies should sleep on their backs BUT they should be facing the side! By positioning baby facing alternate sides when sleeping you are encouraging healthy development of the skull structures. You are also helping to prevent aspiration of any milk that bay may bring up.
DO NOT RELY ON SLEEP POSITIONERS!!! They are not proved to be safe for newborn sleep.

Your newsfeed is probably riddled with baby products and advertisements BUT BE WEARY!!! Many of these products are being sold under false claims (DON’t even get me started on the “closer to breast” bottles🤬) and a few are actually dangerous!! This little gadget came up on my personal feed and I could not help myself and went down the rabbit hole. Watch the video to see what I found out!

My name is Anabela Almeida. Born and raised in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, from a very young age I felt the calling of helping others. In 2006 I completed my Nursing Degree and started working in a general hospital in Lisbon.
In 2007 love brought me to Ireland and I began working as a nurse in St Luke’s General Hospital. I loved my job, but after having my first baby I fell in love with “mummies and babies world” and decided to do a Higher Diploma in Midwifery.
Working in a maternity hospital is a beautiful and enriching experience. As the proud mother of 4 children, all I’ve learned from the books merged with what I learned from real life.
In 2013 I trained with the International Association of Infant Massage and qualified as a CIMI (Certified Infant Massage Instructor), and have taught more than 200 families the gift baby massage.
In 2016, I became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). This is a qualification created by UNICEF and WHO to define and maintain the highest standards of lactation support. It is internationally considered the highest qualification in breastfeeding and lactation. I was also awarded the Professional Certificate for the Examination of the Newborn by UCD in 2018.
I am very happy to be able to offer my services to the families in Kilkenny and surrounding areas, and to contribute to many happy motherhood journeys.
