Galway’s Luminate Medical raises $21m, plans 130 jobs

Luminate Medical, a Galway-based medtech company, has announced the raising of $21m as part of an expanded Series A funding round, taking its total funding to date to more than $50m.

The medtech company also plans to employ an additional 130 employees over the course of the next three years. Luminate is actively recruiting for roles in software development, electronics, clinical research, mechanical design and manufacturing to join the team at its Galway office and for oncology nurses, pharmacists and healthcare administrators to join its remote US workforce.

According to Luminate, the announcement comes at a time in which healthcare organisations in the US are expressing a keen interest in participating in Luminate’s Lotus programme, alongside the launch of the company’s peripheral neuropathy prevention trial at St James’ Hospital, Dublin.

👉 𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 with sector-focused engineering consultancies. For more mechanical design roles, your current qualifications may be enough although additional training especially in GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) would definitely bolster your application.

Quality Assurance makes sure the quality system is followed and works properly.
• So you’d be carrying out audits and setting clear standards
• You’d be handling regulatory inspections from the EMA, and FDA.
• Ensuring GMP compliance in manufacturing

𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴
In these roles, you’d be using your science degree to solve production problems.
• So you could be overseeing the early (cell growth) biopharma manufacturing
• Or you could be designing and improving the steps used to make medicines or vaccines.

- 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙐𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧 – manage capital projects from inception to delivery and ensure plant availability is maximised.

- 𝘾𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙐𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧 – ownership of clean utilities systems including purified water, water for injection, clean steam, high-quality compressed air, and nitrogen distribution.

- 𝙁𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙀𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧 – ensure all preventative and corrective works on plant utilities and equipment are planned and executed.

👉 maintenance and design roles with engineering consultancies. GMP manufacturing experience or a relevant qualification is generally required.

👉 validation and qualification roles. You are probably going to need some retraining in validation and qualification. However, your background in engineering design and interpreting P&ID technical drawings is highly relevant to this field.
