Ankle arthritis is relatively uncommon compared to arthritis in the hip or knee, but when it does occur, it can significantly affect daily activities. It may develop following an injury to the ankle, which can lead to arthritis over time. In other cases, it may be linked to a systemic form of arthritis that affects multiple joints throughout the body.

In this video, Mr. Adeel Memon, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Mater Private Network Cork, discusses the potential causes of ankle arthritis and why it may occur in one or both ankles. Visit our website to learn more https://bit.ly/4fjPzCE

Did you know that as many as 1 in 3 women will experience urinary incontinence at some point in their lives?

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss of bladder control. For some, it may mean a small leak when laughing or coughing. For others, it can involve a sudden, strong urge to urinate that is difficult to manage. Although, common research shows that women often wait an average of six years before seeking help, and only 10 to 20% pursue treatment.

Mr. Girish Nama, Consultant Urologist at Mater Private Network in Cork, spoke with The Echo to break the stigma around urinary incontinence and raise awareness of its possible causes.

Are you considering using an at-home thyroid testing kit? While convenient, these kits may not always give the full picture.

Dr. Issam Hajjaji, Consultant Endocrinologist at Mater Private Network in Cork, spoke about the growing use of at-home tests and potential risks associated with their use. Depending on the kit, results may be inaccurate due to technical issues or improper use. Factors like age, pregnancy, fertility treatment, medications, and pre-existing conditions can also affect the outcome.

Dr. Hajjaji warns that even when results appear normal or abnormal, they can miss important context. In-person consultations with a GP or an endocrinologist include a full medical history and further testing, which are crucial for a correct diagnosis.
