The eye is the only part of the body where you can visually examine arteries and veins. Commonly, systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol can all be detected. All these conditions affect blood vessels and therefore can affect the supply of blood to the retina.
Here is a picture of a normal healthy retina and healthy arteries and veins and this is what the optometrist is examining when looking into your eyes.
The most common eye conditions which we check for in every patient are, cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. These can all cause serious problems with your vision but the earlier they are detected, the better. To book an appointment contact us at 071 9855444 or book via our website at http://bit.ly/1y0dX1L
