Farmers in Ireland face a large number of work-related challenges that can contribute to poor mental health outcomes. Nevertheless, programmes to support farmers’ health and wellbeing are faced with a range of difficulties, with farmers often described as ā€œhard to reachā€. To overcome these barriers to engagement, it has been recommended that farmers’ health programmes dovetail with ā€˜resources’ already available to farmers, as well as being appropriate to their occupational and socio-cultural context.

The ā€œOn Feirm Ground 2ā€ Training Programme is a bespoke farmers’ health training programme that equips frontline agricultural professionals and service providers with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to engage and signpost farmers on health and wellbeing.

I was happy to attend my initial training this week, and I look forward to helping in the roll out of the programme in the months ahead.

10th September is World Su***de Prevention Day.

Today, let’s raise awareness, spread hope, and remind everyone that help is always available.

On World Su***de Prevention Day, let’s break the silence and open up the conversation about mental health.

Every life is precious, and every struggle matters.

If you or someone you know is struggling, reach out. It’s okay to ask for help, and there’s always someone ready to listen. Together, we can make a difference.

Let’s support each other, spread kindness, and be the light in someone’s darkest moments.

The National Parents and Students Leaving Certificate Freephone Helpline opens 23 August: 1800 265 165
The National Parents and Students Leaving Certificate Helpline 1800 265 165 will operate from Friday 23 August -Saturday 31 August.

The Helpline is a free-phone service provided to Leaving Certificate students and their parents and guardians during the period when exam results become available. It will provide support and information relating to the results and on all pathways including CAO, apprenticeships, Further Education and Training (FET) and more. It will also be open to those who didn’t sit their leaving certificate in 2024 but need further information.

The Helpline is staffed by professional and experienced guidance counsellors who will deliver one-to- one support to parents and students. The guidance counsellors involved in the helpline are members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors (IGC). The National Parent and Student Leaving Cert Helpline is supported by the Department of Education, the National Parents’ Council, the Irish Second Level Students’ Union (ISSU) and Trinity College Dublin.

Guidance counsellors can provide information and support on a whole range of issues, for example, calculating CAO points, examination result rechecks, accepting an offer, failing a subject, repeating and viewing of scripts. Students and parents may also have questions relating to course information, preference order, no offer, further education and training options, apprenticeships, private colleges, UNICAS, UCAS, CAO, registration fees and gap years.
Those seeking support and information can contact the Helpline on 1800 265 165 and all queries will be dealt with in a professional and confidential manner.

To speak to a guidance counsellor, call the Helpline number: 1800 265 165.

You have a concern about someone in your life.

Just ask them "how are you today", "how are things" or "how are you feeling"

And then actively LISTEN. Don't try to fix, or jump in. Just give them space and time to think. And listen.

You are giving this person a gift that might be very important to them.

The Blue 5km Fun Run/Walk is happening this weekend. And it is going green!

They are doing our bit for the environment. šŸŒŽ
This year they are asking you to wear a T-shirt from a previous run. If you can’t get your hands on a T-shirt you can wear something blue. There will even be a prize for the bluest person.

They are also going plastic free. Water on the day will be supplied by Refill.ie so they won’t have any plastic bottles or cups to dispose of. Reusable cups will be provided or you can bring your own reusable bottle. I was very happy to sponsor this initiative.

If you haven’t already done so, you can register at the following link.
Race starts at 12pm on Sunday 14th April .

Spread the word. See you there! 🌈
