Final days on this amazing project. It's been very challenging. I had a great group of work mates which made the job easier. It is off to it's final resting place tomorrow. It's a bit sad to be finished but onwards to the next project please.

My little three year old daughter brings this beautiful drawing over to me. A flower, now that she can't bring them in from the garden she resorts to drawing them.

Delighted with my flyers designed by Kevin Fortune and myself. Thanks again for all your hard work.

Of course they needed a holder designed from bits of an old sofa, washers and an old chain! I think this is a nice way to display them, what does everyone think?

If you could have anything you want made in steel, what would you choose?

My partners bump on our little boy. I can run through the process of making your plaster cast of your bump so it can be sent on to me. It's not too complicated once you set yourself up right first. There are some things you shouldn't do but I can always answer any questions you may have. I personally think it's a lovely momento of such a special time. Said little boy is running around now in to all kinds of trouble. Its hard to believe such a short time a go he fit inside this form.

A sunflower crafted from an old side panel of an early day computer. The center was made from old washers.

Sometimes I wonder why I do it , it would be so easy to go and buy new materials. There would be no cleaning and no preparation work involved but I don't think I would be happy with that. Bringing all the different discarded components together is the most fun. This was made as a surprise birthday present for a customer. I get so much joy out of it when all these so-called bits of junk can bring a little bit of happiness to someone.

Life is good when you can put a smile on someone's face :-)

Today I was asked what exactly could I make from bits of scrap steel brought to me.

The answer to this lies with the person asking the question. The possibilities are endless if you can see beyond the scrap and rather look towards who used to own the bits and pieces. What I suggested today was to write a few lines about the person who has passed . Who were they? What made them precious to you? Would you like something like a garden chair to sit and think about the person?

There are so many questions to be asked before I even make a memorial piece. By the time I am finished making one I feel like I knew the person who had passed. Listening to my customers' stories of their loved ones makes a piece completely unique, it gives an insight and an appreciation of their life. It's a privilege to bring a little bit of joy or memory back to the deceased's friends and family.

This Memorial Piece was entirely made from my Dads belongings that were left behind after his passing.
The stand is made from horse shoes because in his younger years he used to plough with horses. The spine of the piece is made from an old round baler that he managed to keep going for years. I remember that he used to say that it was a nightmare to build a load on the trailer as they never came out the same size. I turned his old spade into a sickle as it symbolises all his hard work during his life time.
A life time, that's what our memorial pieces symbolise. All these bits could have been discarded but we would rather share the memories that each element brings to the work. They become a talking point of a person no longer with us as all these bits were once used or held in their hand.

More up-cycled bird feeders. Great fun in the winter watching the birds eat from these feeders with the kids. They get to know a wide variety of birds which they wouldn't see without the feeders, a nice way to educate them.
