Health can be made to be very extreme(yes/no) in the world of social media: eat this, not that; you’re not getting enough of X; do more, be more. The messages can also be mixed, where you can read polar opposite positions. It’s confusing and stressful to many people.

There is so much dogma, narrowness, and rigor within health, which can be good to get us on track, but only when balanced with one’s own flow of how one feels and responds.

When the principle comes before the person, I think we have a problem. Then it’s not personalized.

I see health as a spectrum, a continuum, a path of exploration. 🌈 The principles I like to follow are Nature’s: wholeness, diversity, and creativity.

I am constantly reshaping my routine. My life is not static or in a groove. Some days, I’m a morning person, and other days I’m not and I let myself sleep a little more. And still other days, I go with my energy level and not push myself to exercise if I intuitively need to relax, even though I aim for certain fitness goals. I know I will make it up another time. Sometimes I start work later and end later, other times, the opposite. I go with my body, energy, and innate sense within.

For many years, I just willed myself to do things, irrespective of my body. I believe body and mind need to work as a team, and not one dominating the other: mind and matter as one.

The rigidity of fitting within a box of being a certain way has the potential to cause more stress and lead to less health than the box was set out to do. I know I’ve seen this for myself. The moment I start to veer to an extreme side again, I have to remind myself that what is more important than anyone’s opinion of health is what I know of my own body and experience.
