In the last two days, the first meeting of interested Member States to build up rescEU EMT capacities and specialised care teams took place in the Commission in Brussels. Based on the great success of the EUMFH project, the Member States will build up under rescEU joint EMT 2 capacities as well as complementary care teams, using the well working European approach developed and proved under EUMFH.

The IDF Medical Corps Humanitarian Mission in Equatorial Guinea -
On March 7 a series of explosions occurred in a military base in the city of Bata, Equatorial Guinea. The death toll from the explosions is more the 200. At least 700 people were injured. Bata was declared a disaster zone and urgent measures were activated to protect those affected.
The local government asked for international assistance, and shortly the government of Israel and the IDF Medical Corps started to plan a Humanitarian Aid based on medical personal from all relevant medical specialties: General Surgeons, Orthopedics, Anesthesiologists, OR Nurses, ICU Nurses and Command Ward.
On 11th of March 01:00 AM GMT, the special team depart from Tel Aviv. The team landed in Bata 06:00 AM Local time, and after a short brief from the local authorities, started to work according to 2 main efforts:
1. 3 special teams working in the local hospitals. Mission: Working together within hospitals and increasing capabilities
2. Population situation assessment.
Until now they already treated more than 250 casualties and operated over 20 surgeries.
The delegation commander, COL Dr. Noam Fink- IDF Deputy Surgeon General, is in touch with local authorities, UN representatives (especially WHO) and other international teams and make sure to assists in any way needed. The spirit is strong, the teams are devoted and looking for any way to assist and to help the local population.
The delegation Coordinator will continue to keep local authorities and UN coordinator updated.

EMT Type 1 deployment to Ashkelon, southern Israel

As a part of the national effort fighting the COVID-19, LTC Shai Schul, chief of operations of the IDF Medical Corps Field Hospital reported that the IDFFH deployed their EMT Type 1 to Ashkelon, southern Israel in March.

The mission aimed to provide hospital care for military patients diagnosed with COVID-19. They deployed a team of 30 medical staff (8 doctors, 6 nurses, 3 paramedics, medics, pharma and medical equipment, mental health), together with a supportive logistics team, commanding by LTC Oshrat Gozlan, the IDF MC chief nurse.

The facility can hospitalize up to 400 patients.
The effort will “allow us to expand national inpatient capacity,” said the IDF SG, Brig.Gen. Dr. Tarif Bader.

IPRED 6 - Jan. 2020.
The Home Front Command Rescue forces and the I.D.F Field Hospital (EMT 3) Drill: The theme of IPRED 6 was multi-casualty treatment in a destruction site.
The drill took place at Zikim army base, in a destruction-site simulation site, where various units will cope with a variety of issues.

Training and Sharing - Karmiel earthquake scenario - 2018
The MC IDFFH together with the MC Blood Services Unit practiced in a complex earthquake scenario devastating earthquakes which occur in vast areas, causing thousands of deaths, tens of thousands of ruined buildings, hundreds of thousands of displaced people and severe damage to infrastructure.
During the exercise, the headquarters of government ministries, emergency agencies and local authorities examined at the national, provincial and territorial levels, with emphasis on coordination between them and the ability to respond to the expected challenges.
The exercise has been promoted by the National Emergency Authority, led by the IDF and the Home Front Command and with the assistance of government ministries and all emergency and rescue agencies, including fire and rescue forces and Magen David Adom.
