Last month we marked three years to a space created out of faith in the traditional method of Ashtanga yoga as taught by our dearest teacher who has recently continued his journey, and left us with the responsibility to pass on his teachings, which we believe was exactly his intention after all his tirelessly hard work.
Three years is not a lot for a Shala, just like three years of practice is quite the beginning for a practitioner, even though many leave at that stage, when the honeymoon with the practice is over and real life begins.. just like marriage. You either gonna deal with everything that it means to be married, true devotion, dedication and the discipline to keep showing up no matter the pains, the shadows, the grace and the mundane.
Getting to know yourself on every level and be willing to see yourself and accept the inconvenient.
It takes a lot of courage, because in this particular method, you don’t skip any poses, just like life’s hardships don’t skip you.. and that is part of the brilliance of it. The poses that we are scared of, hate, and rather avoid to the level some would rather invent another traditional method.. the same one but without the dealings, in the name of “compassion”. But how does compassion appears? It appears from the willingness to observe whatever comes up and hurts or cause us discomfort. We don’t understand the depth in skipping the hard stuff, it is literally another method.
It might seem too tuff, but it is what we know, and part of what we find to be so cool and rewarding about it, this is the spiritual work, it cannot be comfortable.
Day by day we explore and observe and develop a flame of intelligence - a loving awareness .
We want to sincerely thank every single person who ever stepped their foot in the Shala, those who came and immediately ran away, those who came for a short visit, those who stayed longer, and the ones who keep Showing up.
We truly love All of you and are greatful for you, and for taking the most meaningful part in this Shala, your Shala.
