Helping people to find their voice can often times be a process whose results only emerge after some time, though the end result is nothing short of amazing.
Today I was called by a client who initially spoke in a very high tone, as he felt it was "his voice". In truth, it was the kind of voice the person used as a child, and never transitioned into the deeper "adult voice" (a condition known as puberphonia).
That condition caused a secondary condition, known as muscle tension dysphonia, which caused him the inability to vibrate the vocal cords well, and the inability to use different vocal tones freely, creating a hoarse and strained voice.
After working on finding his "new natural voice" we then worked together to address the muscle tension.
The client learned new techniques and strategies to improve his voice, and decided to stop therapy after several more sessions. Though his vocal quality was much improved, there was more to achieve, though with continued usage of the techniques learned, we were optimistic for further improvement.
Five months later, today, my client called me to check in with me. I didn't recognize the voice of this person as it has changed so dramatically into a clear, rich, and free voice. In our discussion he related how happy he was to see his continued improvement from continuing to implement the techniques that he learned in therapy.
There are many studies that show that the results of Resonant Voice Therapy continue to improve vocal quality even years later. Today I was privelaged to live it in a way that blew my mind.
