Welcoming Canada to Sheba

Last week, Sheba Medical Center was honored to host H.E. Leslie Scanlon, Ambassador of Canada to Israel, for a focused visit exploring medical innovation.

During her visit to Sheba Medical Center, Ambassador Scanlon toured ARC Innovation with Prof. Eyal Zimlichman, MSR with CEO Kim McMillan, and the Rehabilitation Hospital with Ms. Maya Erlich—gaining firsthand insight into how Sheba is driving global healthcare innovation, training the next generation of medical professionals, and advancing recovery through forward-thinking solutions.

Sheba is proud to strengthen the bridge between Canada and Israel through shared goals in medicine, research, and innovation.

In collaboration with NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, SpaceX, and Space Tango, Sheba Medical Center is launching its second medical experiment to space as part of the Crew-11 mission to the International Space Station 🚀

Developed by Sheba’s ARC Space Lab and our Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory, led by Prof. Ohad Gal-Mor, the experiment will study how microgravity affects the genetic behavior of bacteria known to cause disease in humans—a step forward in both space medicine and infection research on Earth.

Eli Sharabi’s story of resilience is nothing short of extraordinary.

After being held hostage for 491 days and losing his wife, Lian, his two lovely daughters, Noya and Yahel, his brother Yossi and his freedom — Eli never gave up. Despite unimaginable loss, he held on to life, full of hope. Today, Eli is determined to share his story with the world, and we’re honored to support him in this important mission.

Last Sunday, Eli shared his powerful journey at Sheba’s ‘Back to Life’ Gala in Monte Carlo, an event organized to support Sheba’s ‘Back to Life’ clinic, where returned hostages, their families and the families of those still held captive, receive comprehensive, holistic care by Sheba’s medical teams.

As Israel’s City of Health, Sheba Medical Center is committed to supporting the wellbeing of all the people of Israel. The launch of the National Center for Innovation in Resilience, anchored by ARC, Israel’s National Insurance, and the municipality of Sderot, signals a major step forward in developing practical, scalable solutions for resilience.

By directly leveraging Sderot’s lived expertise, startups and innovators will now pilot and develop breakthrough technologies. The impact will extend far beyond Israel, offering a blueprint for resilience that communities globally can learn from and adapt.

After a life-changing injury, Liora became a patient at Sheba. But her journey didn’t stop at recovery, she now inspires everyone she meets.

With endless positivity, Liora embraces her prosthetic leg as a form of self-expression of various patterns and designs that she changes regularly, often matching them with colorful socks. She also volunteers at our therapeutic greenhouse, helping other patients find calm and connection during challenging times.
