Honoured to be awarded the Fellowship of Indian Heart Rhythm Society (FIHRS)

Grateful to share that I was conferred the Fellowship (FIHRS) by the Indian Heart Rhythm Society at the 17th Annual IHRS Conference 2025 in Vishakhapatnam.

Standing on that stage, wearing the academic robe, receiving the medal and certificate — it felt like a reminder of how far the journey has come…
from a small town, from a humble home, from dreams that once felt too big — to a moment that now feels beautifully real.

This fellowship is not just a title.
It represents the trust of mentors, the support of family, the blessings of teachers, and the faith of every patient who allowed me to touch their heart in the most literal sense.

Electrophysiology is not just a specialty — it’s a calling.
Every arrhythmia we treat, every life we stabilise, every rhythm we restore… keeps reminding me why this field matters.

Grateful to my seniors, colleagues, teachers, IHRS family, and my team at Marengo CIMS Hospital, Ahmedabad.
And to everyone who believed in me long before the medals came — this achievement is yours too.

Here’s to learning more, contributing more, and helping shape the next chapter of cardiac rhythm care in India. ❤️

Privileged to be part of the Faculty at the Indian Heart Rhythm Society 2025 (IHRS) Meeting in Vishakapatnam.

The meeting offered a remarkable academic atmosphere — thought-provoking lectures, vibrant discussions, and meaningful learning around the evolving landscape of electrophysiology and device therapy.

A big thank-you to the organising team for crafting such a meticulous and impactful scientific program. The engagement, knowledge sharing, and collective enthusiasm were truly inspiring and reflected the rising pace of rhythm-care innovation in India.

And on a lighter note, I also enjoyed a glimpse of Vishakapatnam’s coastal charm — a city full of warmth, colour, and stunning seaside beauty.

Conduction System Pacing (CSP) refers to a method of cardiac pacing that directly stimulates the heart’s natural conduction pathways, such as the His bundle or the left bundle branch. This is an alternative to traditional pacing, which typically stimulates the heart muscle itself, often leading to non-physiological patterns of contraction.

Benefits of CSP:

1. More Physiological Activation: CSP preserves the heart’s natural electrical conduction, leading to a more synchronized and efficient contraction of the ventricles.

2. Reduced Risk of Heart Failure: By maintaining normal conduction patterns, CSP reduces the risk of pacing-induced cardiomyopathy, a condition that can occur with long-term traditional pacing.

3. Improved Hemodynamics: CSP promotes better blood flow dynamics, improving cardiac output and patient symptoms, particularly in those with heart failure or atrioventricular block.

4. Lower Risk of Atrial Fibrillation: The more natural pacing reduces the risk of atrial fibrillation compared to conventional right ventricular pacing.

CSP is increasingly favored in patients with complex electrical disorders or those requiring long-term pacing.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a critical medical emergency where the heart suddenly stops beating, cutting off blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. It can occur without warning, and if not treated immediately, it can be fatal. Spreading awareness about SCA is crucial, as timely action can save lives.

Key points to highlight in SCA awareness:

1. Symptoms and Signs

• Sudden collapse with no pulse or breathing
• Loss of consciousness
• Sometimes, chest discomfort or shortness of breath may occur just before collapse.

2. Causes

• SCA can be caused by underlying heart conditions like arrhythmias, heart attacks, or structural heart issues.
• It can also result from severe trauma, drowning, or electrocution.

3. Difference from a Heart Attack

• A heart attack is a “plumbing” problem caused by blocked arteries, while SCA is an “electrical” problem, causing the heart to stop.

4. Importance of CPR

• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is vital in keeping blood flowing until medical help arrives.
• Immediate CPR can double or triple the chances of survival.

5. Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)

• AEDs are portable devices that can restart a heart with an electric shock.
• Teaching people how to use AEDs and making them more available in public places is essential.

6. Risk Factors

• Family history of heart disease or SCA
• Personal history of heart conditions like arrhythmias
• Lifestyle factors like smoking, excessive alcohol use, or lack of physical activity

7. Prevention and Screening

• Regular heart checkups and screenings can help identify risk factors.
• Encourage healthy lifestyles: balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking or excessive drinking.

8. Emergency Response

• If someone experiences SCA, act quickly:
• Call emergency services immediately.
• Start CPR immediately if you’re trained.
• Use an AED if one is available.

By raising awareness, promoting CPR and AED training, and advocating for heart health, we can reduce the devastating effects of sudden cardiac arrest and improve survival rates.

Dr. Hiren Kevadiya (Patel) was born and brought up in a farmer family in a remote village of saurashtra region of Gujarat. After completing his MBBS and MD Medicine, he secured a coveted seat for DM Cardiology at the prestigious Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, Kerala and followed it up with a post-doctoral fellowship in pacing and cardiac electrophysiology from the same institute. SCTIMST is an institute which has been given a special status as “Institute of National Importance” by Government of India and is considered as one of the best institutes in India to pursue training in Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology. The institute gives research utmost importance, and this is reflected in the numerous independent and collaborative research presentations done by Dr. Hiren in various national and international platforms. He is young, dynamic and takes keen interest in social awareness initiatives like “Heart Rhythm Awareness Programmes” as part of his quest to give back to the society the fruits of his achievements. He perseveres to provide the best possible comprehensive patient care with commitment, trust and integrity.

“A Cardiologist & Cardiac Electrophysiologist dedicated to solving Heart Rhythm problems (Heart Beat related abnormalities) and Heart Failure problems using the latest Non-Invasive and Invasive treatment strategies. I am dedicated to my patients and passionate about making them better.”
