When Is Spine Surgery Required?
Spine surgery is usually considered when conservative treatments like medications, physiotherapy, injections, and rest fail to relieve symptoms after 6โ12 weeks. Persistent, severe back or neck pain that affects daily activities, sleep, or mobility may indicate the need for further evaluation. Surgery may also be required in cases of structural damage such as herniated discs or spondylolisthesis, where instability in the spine causes ongoing pain or nerve compression.
Immediate surgical attention is crucial in serious conditions like progressive weakness, numbness, tingling in the limbs, or Cauda Equina Syndrome โ which includes sudden loss of bowel or bladder control. Additionally, significant spinal deformities such as scoliosis or kyphosis that impact posture, breathing, or quality of life may require corrective procedures.
Early diagnosis and expert consultation can help determine the safest and most effective treatment plan.
