MiniMed was originally founded in 1983 by Alfred E. Mann (Al Mann) in the United States.

MiniMed pioneered insulin pump technology for diabetes management. In 2001, Medtronic acquired MiniMed, integrating it into their diabetes care portfolio.

Diabetes now constitutes only 8% of global Medtronic's business.

In 2025, Medtronic rebrands its diabetes division - MiniMed ("Back to the Future").

*Diabetes Breakthrough: New Treatment Eliminates Insulin for 86% of Patients*

This innovative approach, which combines a novel procedure known as ReCET (Re-Cellularization via Electroporation Therapy) with semaglutide, resulted in the elimination of insulin therapy for 86% of patients.

ReCET is a novel endoscopic procedure that uses electroporation to induce cellular apoptosis and subsequent reepithelization.

These results suggest that ReCET is feasible and safe. In combination with semaglutide, ReCET may be a promising therapeutic option to replace insulin therapy in selected T2D patients while improving glycemic control and metabolic health.
