Update on My Mother's Health: Post-Bone Marrow Transplant Recovery and Recent Hospitalization
My mother, a post-bone marrow transplant blood cancer patient (SCT +10 months) with a history of Primary Myelofibrosis, was recently admitted to the hospital due to hand swelling, eye infection, muscle pain, and recurring fever. The dedicated healthcare team closely monitored her condition and conducted various tests to determine the cause of her symptoms. They ruled out muscle GVHD and Eye GVHD. After further investigation, they concluded that her hand swelling was likely due to cellulitis.
An ophthalmologist diagnosed an eye infection and prescribed a few eye drops to treat it. Thankfully, her eye condition is now improving. The recurring fever has decreased but hasn't fully subsided. The healthcare team at CMC has prescribed oral medications to manage the fever.
Throughout her hospital stay, my mother received various medications, including antibiotics (Magnex, Teicoplanin), pain relief (Tramadol, Pyrilin), and other treatments to manage her symptoms. Her hand swelling began to subside with MgSO4 treatment, and the doctors decided to gradually taper off Tramadol as her hand pain improved. They also addressed her fever with oral medications.
My mother is now being discharged from the hospital, with a plan for bi-weekly outpatient follow-ups to continue monitoring her progress and addressing the hand swelling until it is completely resolved. The healthcare team will continue to support her recovery and ensure she receives the best possible care.
Thank you, everyone, for your warm wishes.
Best Regards,
Arghya
