Breastfeeding and Lactation.

Lactation is the process of producing and releasing milk from the mammary glands in your breasts . When your baby suckles , it stimulates nerves that tell your body to release prolactin and oxytocin . Oxytocin causes muscle contractions that push out the milk of the alveoli through the milk ducts and prolactin causes the alveoli to make milk .

This year’s theme is “Step Up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support” highlighting the role of breastfeeding as the key to sustainable development strategies post-pandemic, as it improves nutrition, ensures food security, and reduces inequalities between and within countries.
