Heartiest congratulations to Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist at CEMS, on his appointment as the first Coordinator of CEMS for a tenure of three years, effective from 1 May 2026.

It is noteworthy that he has previously served as Administrative In-Charge at CEMS and as Deputy Chief Proctor at IMS. He is also a recipient of the National Award for “Outstanding Efforts in Science and Technology Communication through Innovative and Traditional Methods (2021),” conferred by the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, along with several other recognitions.

We extend our best wishes to Dr. Singh as he leads the centre to new heights.

Many congratulations to Ms. Priyamvada Gupta, PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Vibhav Gautam, on successfully delivering her Pre-PhD seminar. She has been working in the area of nano-oncology and has published her research in reputed journals, including ACS Applied Biomaterials, Medicinal Research Reviews, ACS Omega, Biomedical Materials, RSC Advances, and ACS Chemical Biology, with a cumulative impact factor of around 100.

She has received travel support from ANRF to present her work in Vietnam and was also awarded the Best Oral Presentation at IIIM Jammu, hosted by ACS, along with several other accolades. A detailed list of her publications can be found on her Google Scholar profile.

Many congratulations to Ms. Harsh*ta Tiwari (DBT-JRF), a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr. Vibhav Gautam at CEMS, for publishing a part of her doctoral research in the prestigious journal RSC Advances, entitled “Fabrication of Methotrexate-Conjugated Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes for the Evaluation of Cytotoxic Potential at the Biochemical and Molecular Level Modulating BAX, BCL-2 and Telomerase Expression.”

This study was a collaborative effort between IMS-BHU and IIT (BHU), reflecting a strong interdisciplinary research partnership. The findings demonstrate that MTX-MWCNTs effectively induce apoptosis and inhibit angiogenesis while maintaining significant biosafety, underscoring their promise as an emerging nanoscale platform for targeted cancer therapy.

Ms. Harsh*ta Tiwari has also been honored with the Best Oral Presentation Award for presenting this work at the Third Rencontres de Quy Nhon: International Workshop on Molecular Diagnostics in Microbiology and Diseases, held from December 11–13, 2025, at ICISE, Quy Nhon, Vietnam.

On March 26, 2026, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi visited CEMS, IMS to inaugurate a newly installed Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography (FPLC) system. Acquired under the visionary CAIRF scheme, this advanced facility will significantly enhance our research capabilities and drive translational science to new heights. 🔬✨

The occasion was graced by Prof. S. N. Sankhwar (Director, IMS), Prof. Sanjay Gupta (Dean, Faculty of Medicine), and Prof. Manoj Pandey (Dean, Research), along with Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta and esteemed colleagues Dr. Samer Singh, Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Dr. Vibhav Gautam, Dr. Ankush Gupta, along with other faculty members from various institutes of BHU and IIT (BHU).

We are delighted to share that the newly established Bio-engineering Laboratory at the Centre of Experimental Medicine & Surgery (CEMS), IMS-BHU, has been inaugurated by Prof. S.N. Shankhwar, Director, IMS-BHU, in the gracious presence of Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Dean – Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Sanjeev K. Gupta, Professor In-Charge, CEMS.

Spearheaded by Dr. Vibhav Gautam and Dr. Rajiv Kumar, this state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced high-end instruments including FTIR, HPLC, HP-TLC, Multimode Reader, Fluoroscent microscope and an automated Plate Washer, enabling cutting-edge biomedical research.

This new laboratory marks a significant step forward in strengthening CEMS’s vision of developing innovative drug delivery systems, biomarker discovery platforms, and nano-formulations of natural bioactive compounds aimed at combating cancer and parasitic infections.

Other notable members present on the occasion included Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh (Senior Scientist and Deputy Chief Proctor, IMS BHU), Dr. Samer Singh, and Dr. Shashikala Verma. A proud milestone towards advancing translational research and scientific excellence at IMS-BHU.

Mr. Rajneesh, PhD research scholar and CSIR–JRF, working under the supervision of Dr. Rajiv Kumar at the Centre of Experimental Medicine and Surgery (CEMS), IMS, BHU, presented his research work at The Third Rencontres de Quy Nhon – International Conference on Molecular Diagnostics in Microbiology and Diseases (MDMD 2025), held from December 11–13, 2025, at ICISE, Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh, Vietnam.

He presented his work titled “Serum Metabolomic Profiling Identifies OSCC Biomarkers in North Indian Patients,” highlighting disease-associated metabolic alterations with potential diagnostic significance. His participation in this international forum provided valuable global exposure and opportunities for scientific interaction with researchers from diverse disciplines.

The Centre of Experimental Medicine and Surgery (CEMS) is organizing a two-day workshop on Flow Cytometry in collaboration with BD Biosciences, focusing on advanced applications using the BD FACSDiscover X8 Spectral Flow Cytometry platform, being held from 18–19 December 2025 at the Department of General Surgery, IMS–BHU.

The program was attended and inaugurated by Prof. S. N. Sankhwar, Director, IMS–BHU. The event was graced by Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Gopal Nath, Dean, Research, IMS; and Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Professor In-Charge, CEMS and Convener of the workshop.

The workshop was organized by Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Dr. Vibhav Gautam, and Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh, and the training sessions were conducted and attended by faculty members from IIT-BHU, the Department of General Medicine, the Department of General Surgery, and CEMS, IMS–BHU, in collaboration with BD Biosciences.

The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 50 students representing various departments of BHU and IIT-BHU. Best wishes to all the participants for their active involvement and learning during the workshop.
