Meet our therapist, Maxx Clarke!
Maxx is a q***r, transgender therapist who believes in the transformative power of the therapeutic relationship. Rooted in respect for the impacts of q***r solidarity in his own life, he arrives to this work humbly and with care.
In clinical work, a trusting relationship is everything. Maxx’s therapeutic style begins with co-creating a safe environment that grants agency to clients to move at their own pace and according to their own unique preferences. He offers warm, non-judgmental companionship as clients explore their inner worlds and personal histories, gaining depth and perspective on the patterns that shape their present experiences. In this way, he aims to support clients as they discover and uplift their most authentic selves.
Maxx’s practice is deeply client-driven and harm reduction-based, integrating psychodynamic perspectives with mindfulness and somatic approaches. He draws from IFS and parts work, strengths-based, and narrative modalities. Maxx has experience working with diverse populations navigating substance use, HIV/AIDS, s*x work, grief and loss, and compulsive behaviors. His specializations include anxiety and depression, gender exploration, s*xual trauma, shame and guilt, relationship conflict and non-monogamy, low self-esteem, and stagnation.
Maxx holds a BA from UC Berkeley and an MSW from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. Prior to working as a therapist, Maxx worked in education, housing justice, arts, and nightlife.
