I actually used this approach for my wrist pain that 2 surgeries, several rounds of PT, chiropractic, acupuncture and injections didn’t fix:

This is a true story.

So, we’ve all heard about “mindful movement” …and the reason people talk about it is because it works.

But here's the thing, it's not just about being mindful for the sake of it.

It's about creating awareness that actually reveals imbalances …for the MOVER.

That kind of mindful movement works like crazy.

(By the way - this is what empowers people to fix themselves …and for those reading this …this means knowing what to do if and when things flare up.)

Anyway …

… According to research conducted by the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management , people with back pain who practiced a mindful movement practice called, Qigong, reported a statistically significant reduction in pain and disability compared to those who did not practice.

That's right, compared to those that DID NOT!

And in case you're still not convinced, a study published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science in 2016 found that a 12-week qigong intervention was effective in significantly reducing chronic pain and improving physical function.

Participants in the qigong group showed statistically significant reductions in pain and improvements in physical function compared to the control group.

This is the kind of practice ANYONE can do.

To both prevent and treat pain and tension.

This is something that can be knocked out in as little as 10-20min per day (spaced out in 5min blocks.)

Here are 3 things (most people know to do but don’t) that you can start today to release stubborn neck, back and shoulder tension in a way that rewires them to remain loose.

First start to practice abdominal breathing.

Abdominal breathing is like a magic trick for your body. The reason you want to start breathing into your belly is because when you do it, it helps make your body feel better by bringing more air in which allows your muscles to relax, this can make pain go away (according to the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine and a pile of other sources).

Next, pay attention to your posture and body alignment.

Maintaining good posture and proper body alignment can help to distribute weight evenly across the body, reducing the risk of injury and strain on specific areas (according to the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research)

Finally, engage in some mindful movement.

This is as simple as watching yourself turn your head slowly, left and right, as you engage in your abdominal breathing without judgment. You can knock this out in 30-60 seconds at a time.

This can help to activate the body's natural pain-relieving mechanisms, such as the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers according to the Journal of Pain.

If you don't feel good about the advice that your medical provider is giving you, listen to your gut and do more research before committing to anything.

Because of the way the medical system is set up, it can feel like a pressure cooker when seeing a doctor/therapist.

So when they suggest an injection, medication, procedure and you feel like you need to say "yes" even though your gut is saying "HELL NO!"

Listen to your gut!

Most of us (me included) just go along with what the doctor suggests even when it feels wrong.

The problem is when your gut was right - now you have to deal with the consequences.

With most people we speak to, it's not that they ended up feeling worse after disregarding their gut (although that is a very real risk and happens all the time!) but that they wasted their time, money and energy on the wrong things.

For me it took almost a decade before I was able to find the right approach to fixing my body.

But the worst part was that inner voice saying "i told you so". Knowing that I should've listened to myself rather than some doctor who was probably rushed because he had other patients waiting for him and/or didn't REALLY care how it all turned out.

That feeling is sometimes worse than the pain itself.

These days with all of the information out there, take your time. Do your research. Don't rush into things like surgery or injections without first exploring safer approaches.
