There’s always something special about those old style hotels where the walls hold the scent of our forefathers being there and relishing each bite of the food served with so much love and respect. One such place is located on DVG Road, Basavanagudi.

The Ugadi Pachadi 💫

This is one recipe that I learnt from an old neighbor of ours, very long back, and it never goes out of taste for the family. This is Ugadi/Yugadi put in one small bowl of variety of tastes.

Generally not everyone in the house likes bevu-bella; it's an acquired taste. It's just a tradition so we eat a little, keep away the rest and discard it the next day. But make this recipe once and I promise, they'll love it🤩

Take a few strands of neem flowers (bevina hoovu), bella (jaggery), a few pieces of mavina kayi (raw mango), a small ball of tamarind, a ripe banana. Grind them all into a fine paste. Serve as it is.

I personally love to eat with this chapathis.

Again mentioning that it is an acquired taste to love the bitterness of neem and the extreme sourness of the mangoes. But those who love it, know the best 😋🤤

The yugadi fiesta on a leaf!

On the feed today were Maavinkayi chitranna, carrot & cucumber kosambri, seekumbalakayi palya, ambade, bele holige, hooranada saaru, shyavige payasa and tovve.

As heavy as all these look and sound, they're super healthy and balanced for a festive meal in the season (of course when everything is in limits🤪).

Season's first mangoes for the chitranna are the best way to start spring/summer feasts as they're here to stay for another 2-3 months in abundance.

So what was on your plate/leaf for the festivities today?

I'm someone who hates beetroot. But having been low on haemoglobin for a very long time since teenage, I've always been forced to have beetroot, spinach, etc to be on the safer side..
So how do I include it in my daily diet?

Well, here's one way of doing it.

Grate one whole beetroot into your Rave Dosae batter and do the honours. Serve with whatever chutney, saagu or pickle you like 😋
