Double tap if you relate ❤️

What happens when you bargain for a product or a service?

With a new month upon us, I thought of sharing my views on the topic. I had realized some of these points even before I became a small business. Most of us have been there in the school/college days when we tried to score free movies and TV shows to save money 💵. What we don't realize is some of us continue the same habit unconsciously even in our adult life.

With most products & service, a lot of time, money & effort would have gone behind the end result that we see. And we ourselves would have experienced that the Quality, What we pay & How much use we'll get out of a product - all 3 are linked.

What are your thoughts?
Share this with a fellow business owner or someone who needs a kind reminder on what happens when they try to bargain.

I spoke to someone recently who had trouble doing anything that felt good. And that person was depressed. We got to talking about life, life's purpose, how the same mundane things we do become more meaningful if we attach a meaning to it. I asked if he had read the book "Man's Search for Meaning". The response I got was something I could not have guessed, "Yea, I've read it a few times but I don't know what to make of it".

The denial to see our flaws and take accountability for them and to work on them, keeps us in a total rut. And the desire to go ahead of everyone and achieve everything, keeps us constantly disappointed.

Denial yet Desire. A deadly vicious cycle.

This is not just the case of those who work 9-5. This is sometimes the reason why choosing your passion as profession can also quickly turn you anxious, make you burn out faster and give up eventually.

Why?

Because what began as play, became dreaded work to get more clients/orders/followers/pay raise.

"Play. Don't get played"

BEST advice I ever received. And it truly works.

My dear overworked, burned out people, work all you want.. but after that just.. play. For fun.

When was the last time you taught a yoga class because it's fun?
When was the last time you let yourself flow on the mat without carefully planned bunch of asanas to "strengthen" you?
When was the last time you wrote a piece of code because it was fun to solve a problem?
When was the last time you went for a walk without counting steps?
When was the last time you relished a meal thoroughly without netflix or calorie counters?
When was your last art work not commissioned by someone else or was for your art store?

Root of anxiety is fear. Fear of not meeting up to some level. We're constantly giving us levels to reach without providing ourselves tools & transportation methods to get there.

Not having goals for some activities help you achieve your other major goals in life.

Can you reap from what you haven't sown?

I get it, its tough to invest in ourselves. But what's with us humans and our expectations where we have put least efforts? (I too am a part of this problem - hence "us").

We look down upon these grounding activities as "luxury" or "laziness" or reserved only for those who are "jobless".

Fact is, every successful, well-grounded, holistically strong person reinvests every bit of new found success back in themselves just so they could offer more of themselves back to the society.

Abhyasa or practice is an effort to consistently maintain a steady mind (YS 1.13)

That means, different people need different kind of yoga practice (it is pretty apparent even without the sutra, yet not frequently practised).

A person with inertia, heaviness, constant negative thoughts, absolute lack of physical movement, one who is mostly indoors, sedentary and in front of a desk needs moderate to intense form of practices, where the body is rigorously moved.
Why? To break the inertia and dullness of the mind & body.

A person with racing mind, constant changing thoughts that are rapid, constantly indecisive, jealous, envy, anger, over ambitious, over worrying, constantly judgemental and/or cynical thoughts needs gentle and slow form of practice.
Why? To bring down that "racing mind" to a halt.

There are people who have a mix of these two traits too. They need a balance of both intense and grounding practices.

Like increases like. Our equation and hence the decision is in our hands.

It is best if we discover what suits us, individually, and take lead instead of blindly following the crowd 🙏

The hardest challenge of all, I think, is to accept ourselves as is, without pride and most importantly without judgement.

And we end up mirroring the same non-acceptance with the life situations, people and the whole world.

Maa Anandamayi, as quoted by one of my teachers, used to apparently say that "the world is exactly as it is supposed to be, right now".
(I may have slightly paraphrased, owing to a slightly blurry memory).

Whenever her followers and disciples questioned her about the purpose of ongoing wars, pandemics, inequality and all the suffering and how to bring an end to all of it - apparently this was her response.

Most of the spiritual leaders have more or less had similar responses to similar questions about sufferings. It may sound harsh to an already wounded soul. But despite the pain and suffering, a detached soul can realize the meaning hidden behind.

Pattern - Action | Guna - Karma

Visualize this. You woke up very late and in dire need of a strong coffee. You know you can make your coffee super strong - for that instant boost to start the day. You change your mind in the last minute, reasoning with yourself that - "This strong coffee is only going to make me more agitated". You had the potential to pick the path of instant gratification, but thinking of the near future, you didn't.

If we have the same awareness while we make tiny to big decisions throughout the day, as to what time we sleep, wake up, eat, what we think, talk and do, our future would definitely look different.

The potential to go either ways is always present. For many, there is an added external stimulus which only provokes them to pick the wrong choices. Despite that, what is done in reaction to the stimulus or provocation is what decides everything.

Nobody is immune to this. We all go through this and sometimes pick a non-conducive path for our growth; regardless of how beautiful our social media feeds look or our clothes, homes, work or even relationships.

Stimuli arrive from everywhere. Will we get over them or succumb to them?

Only awareness and knowledge can decide.

Prajnaparadha | Intellectual Blasphemy⁣

One is aware of the repercussions of their actions and how it affects body and mind, yet they continue to do them anyway, out of ignorance. The classic win of ignorance vs intellect.⁣

That's called a crime against intellect in Ayurveda and Yoga. Because we KNOWINGLY create obstacles in our paths (Adhyatmika dukha i.e., the pain created by the self - if you remember the Trividham dukham post).⁣

Examples of Prajnaparadha:⁣
➡️ Avoiding natural urges (yawning, hunger, natural urges for elimination i.e., flatulence, urination, defecation, sleep etc)⁣
➡️ Over eating or eating when full⁣
➡️ Eating what's bad for one's Prakriti/body constitution⁣
➡️ Overindulgence of senses (watching too much TV - crime/passion/mystery/horror/sad and such stimulating genres, staying up too late)⁣
➡️ Over exercising⁣
➡️ Over sleeping⁣
➡️ Usage of stimulants/intoxicants⁣
⁣. and many more..⁣

Notice how these become obstacles in the short AND long runs in our lives by attacking our physical and mental health. Life's purpose will then be to achieve health and reduce suffering. We are all spiritual beings but when our health is affected, Adhyatma/Spirituality is the last thing we'll worry about.⁣

We all falter at this now and then. But if we knew what we are paying for our ignorance, I'm sure we'd think twice before doing it.

Have you observed..

First thing to go out of balance in distress is breath.

Just a few minutes of deep breathing can calm the mind, senses and whole of physical body. Have you tried?
