Radiation Therapy Explained: Clearing Common Myths

In this video, Dr. Suneetha N., Consultant - Radiation Oncology, Aster Whitefield Hospital, explains what radiation therapy really is and how it works.

Radiation uses high-energy X-rays to treat cancer and certain benign conditions. It acts at the cellular level, stopping abnormal cells from growing. Around 60โ€“70% of cancer patients may need radiation during their treatment.

Dr. Suneetha highlights that radiation is a painless, localised treatment, similar to an X-ray, with effects limited only to the treated area. With modern linear accelerators, treatment is precise and designed to protect healthy tissues.

"Chemotherapy isnโ€™t one-size-fits-all and itโ€™s not what many myths suggest.

In this video, Dr. Sai Vivek, Consultant Medical Oncologist, Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru, explains that chemotherapy involves multiple treatment drugs, selected based on the type of cancer and individual patient needs not a single standard medication.

He also addresses concerns about side effects, highlighting that with newer and advanced chemotherapy options, only a small percentage of patients experience significant side effects, many of which are now well managed. For most patients, chemotherapy no longer means being bedridden.

Understanding the right treatment combination starts with consulting an oncologist.

"A new era in the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer.

In this video, Dr. Prathap H. J, HOD - Nuclear Medicine, PET-CT & Advanced Radioligand Theranostics, explains the latest advancement in prostate cancer care in PSMA therapy. Prostate cancer cells express PSMA (Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen), which can be identified on PET scans and precisely targeted using radioligand therapies such as Lutetium PSMA, Actinium PSMA, and Terbium PSMA therapy.

This targeted approach allows treatment to focus on cancer cells while minimising damage to healthy tissue, offering effective outcomes with fewer side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy. Today, PSMA therapy has emerged as a standard of care for metastatic prostate cancer.

At Aster Whitefield, advanced technology and expert care come together to deliver precision oncology.

Watch the video to understand how PSMA therapy is changing prostate cancer treatment.

Cardiac Arrest vs Heart Attack: Know the Difference as it can save lives.

In this video, Dr. Chirag D, Consultant - Interventional Cardiology, Aster Whitefield Hospital, explains the key differences between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack - two terms that are often confused but are medically very different.

A cardiac arrest is an electrical problem where the heart suddenly stops beating, causing the person to become unresponsive and stop breathing. Immediate CPR and emergency care are critical to survival.
A heart attack, on the other hand, is a circulatory problem caused by a blockage in the heartโ€™s arteries, leading to reduced blood supply to the heart muscle. Early treatment can restore blood flow and prevent permanent damage.

Dr. Chirag also explains how a heart attack can sometimes lead to cardiac arrest, and why recognising symptoms early and seeking prompt medical care is essential.

Watch the full video to understand the warning signs and act in time.
