A life-changing journey begins for this 6-year-old boy who, since birth, had never been able to open his mouth. Living only on a liquid diet, he faced severe malnutrition, developmental delay, underweight issues, and facial asymmetry.
After detailed clinical and radiological evaluation, he was diagnosed with Right TMJ Ankylosis associated with facial asymmetry and midline shift.
Under the expert guidance of Dr. Saubhik, renowned Maxillofacial Surgeon of Western Odisha at Facial Surgery Clinic, a comprehensive two-stage surgical treatment has been planned. In the first stage, distraction osteogenesis will be performed to lengthen the right side of the mandible (ramus and corpus) and improve facial symmetry. This will be followed by a second-stage surgery after 4–5 months for device removal and interpositional arthroplasty to achieve functional mouth opening and restore quality of life.
This treatment is not just about surgery, it is about giving a child the chance to eat, smile, speak, and live a healthier life with confidence.
