Mental health awareness program was organised by Superintendent B.N Bose Hospital, Barrackpore and DMHP North 24 Parganas at Talpukur Girls School. A large number of students from class Eight to Eleven along with their Teachers participated in this interactive session and were visibly happy to get their doubts cleared and queries replied. Team DMHP North 24 Parganas is truly indebted to Dr Sudipta Bhattacharjee for making all the necessary arrangements so that we could conduct the Program smoothly.

Objectives of District Mental Health Programme (DMHP)
1. To provide sustainable mental health services and to integrate it with other services.
2. Early detection and treatment of patients within community itself.
3. To see that patients and their family members do not have to travel long distance to avail mental health services.
4. To reduce stigma attached to mental illness through change of attitude and public awareness.

The District Mental Health Programme was launched in 1996 under National Mental Health Programme based on the following components:
1. Early detection and treatment of Mental Illness.
2. Training:
-Imparting short term training to general physicians for diagnosis and treatment of common mental illnesses.
- Training Health workers in identifying mentally ill persons.
3. IEC: Public awareness generation.
4. Monitoring: Record keeping.
